DD2 and ds are both off on school trips this week so our usual 4 child family is suddenly the bog standard 2.

I have learnt over the last 2 days that

1 the Dishwasher only needs to go on once a day with 2 children.

2 The house can be silent when there is 2 children at home

3 I can't easily adjust to making food for just 4.. Not 6

4 With 2 children there are no arguments about what to watch on tv they just took turns quite nicely!!!!

Anyone else?

We took a 3 day break last week with only two children (thanks to wonderful Grandparents) and it was most peculiar. Nobody stared at us and we felt almost invisible. There was time for long pointless conversations. Negotiations were almost simple, and restaurants were affordable.

Funny enough our household was different too, we had 3 instead of 4 as Dd1 was away on school trip and I found it quieter and more calm even with a Ds1 2.9 and Dd3 9mths.
Worked out the eldest winds everyone else up causing all the noise and mayhem making me stress.

Whenever there's one less than normal the family dynamics are totally different in our house. If for some reason we only have one or two kids around, me and DH sometimes can't help saying to each other 'ooh, this must be what it's like in a normal family' :)

I had 3 of my 4 this weekend (and no dh)
I find that you can take one out of the equation, any one it doesn't matter, and it completely changes the atmosphere
On Monday I had a day where the youngest was out and not the other three. It was the first time since before he was born and felt a bit odd.
