What is best savings account for my baby?

New baby, lots of monetary gifts given to her and I want to open some sort of an account for her.
Any tips?
I'm worried about accounts that let them have control at age of 16 or 18 as I think that's an age where one might not be so responsible, or am I just being over the top?

We have a Halifax account which pays 6% for a year, that was the best buy at the time and probably still is. At the end of the year you can transfer the money into another account which again pays 6%.
I agree about the age thing, I am not sure how you stop them getting it though? Maybe keep it secret is my plan!

I think they get a letter when they turn 18.

As fars as I can tell the only way to stop them having access is to keep it in your own name(s).
