Confused about BBTing

HI this is my second month BBT checking my blood work for last month indicated no ovulation due to low progesterone 3.3 first time blood work. My BBT chart seems to have not picked up on any ovulation either although day 13 had a drop and day 14 a big rise but day 15 dropped again. I was wondering how important it is to test temp at exactly the same time in the morning. If you only need to have a three 3 full hour resting period before temping they why would the time be important and we don't always go to be at the same time every night so why do we need to tempt at the same time in the morning? I'm currently off work so I don't tempt at the same time my husband sometimes leaves for work at different time so I don't wake up and temp at the same time and at the weekend I don't temp to a little later.
Any advice would be great thanks.

Trying to take your temp every day at the same time will make the results more consistent and you will be able to compare between months. Try setting yourself an alarm for every day at the same time to take your temperature, regardless of weekday/weekends. My alarm is set for 6am every day, I quickly take my temp and then go back to sleep. It's an easy thing to do and will take out a lot of uncertainty.

Thanks
I know I could set an alarm to get up its just I don't understand why you need to do it at the same time everyday. Does that mean we need to go to sleep at the same time every night also to get a good reading? If you only need 3 hours of undisturbed sleep before tempting does it matter what time it is done? our bodies don't know what time it is. Am I being really silly hear and missing the point?

Our bodies do know what time it is - daily and nightly rhythms play a very important part in hormone production and regulation, especially for those hormones that play a part in ovulation (one of the reasons that they say not to use OPKs first thing in the morning, for example).
Your basal body temp is regulated by hormones (amongst other things) and is very easily influenced, like having a broken night's sleep, illness etc. It is important to have at least 4 hours of unbroken rest before taking your temp, but due to the reasons described above, it's also good to take your temp always at the same time, to reduce the possibility of variation.
I recommend the Fertility Friend website, if you want more information, they explain it much better than I can Wink
