IVF - can you keep trying right up to starting stimming?

Just wanted some advice as am feeling really shaky. We're due to start our first attempt at IVF at the beginning of September. We're doing short protocol so I'll start with a week of Northisterone (progesterone tabs) and then wait for my bleed to start injections. I had always assumed (now I'm thinking, stupidly) that we could keep on trying this month - I'm on AF now - as in, this was going to be our last month to give it a shot naturally, and was still keeping everything crossed as we have totally unexplained fertility(had a miscarriage last year), that we might not have to do IVF as am dreading it. I just emailed my doctor asking about these tabs and also about the endo scratch (which I'm planning on doing) and he just told me very bluntly - obviously don't try to concieve this month. It's really shaken me as I think I was just hanging onto last chance saloon! Just spoke to DH who was sweet but said not to worry as we have our plan in place anyway. But I just feel so sad and desperate that that last window has come and gone without me even knowing about it. Anyone know anything about this or been advised the same? Sorry if it seems really obvious and I'm being stupid!...

I had long protocol and was told to use condoms the month before, reason being that they would not be able to detect a pregnancy before I started on the down-regulators, and these are not tested in pregnant women (obviously!). Also with the scratch there's a chance they could disrupt an implanting embryo, I guess. You've got to follow what your consultant says really. I know it's sad when you think, wow, that was it... you imagine you will be one of those lucky ones who gets pregnant the month before naturally. It's just yet another thing we have to mourn. Hopefully you will be able to 'look forward' to the cycle a bit, remember it will give you a much better chance than you have had each month up to now. Good luck to both of you xxx

Thank you so much Moggle, you're right. I was actually really lucky and got to speak to my consultant on Saturday who said if I was really desperate to try this month we'd just have to scrap the scratch and he'd put me on something other than Norethisterone. But after chatting it all through with my DH we decided it's probably best to stick with our original plan as it's still going to offer our best chance, like you said. Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated

MrsGAT you could be me! I'm on AF at the moment and starting Norethisterone on cd21 of this cycle as part of our first (private) ICSI cycle. Forgot to ask about the DTD situation this cycle and was going to call the clinic today. The booklet I have says no unprotected sex during stimms but nothing about what happens this cycle. I guess your post answers my question though. Worst thing is we get married and go on honeymoon next week so guess I was hoping for a last minute miracle BFP. Oh well, hopefully it'll all be worth it in the end. Good luck for your cycle MrsGAT.
