Next steps after provera challege fail?

I am hoping one of you ladies can give some advice. My gynae has just tried me on the provera challenge for a second time, and I have failed it again. My hormone blood tests are all normal, so he expected me to bleed and I havent. He suggested that if I didn't bleed the next step would be an oestrogen/progesterone combo (i.e the BCP) to see if that gives me AF. My next appt isn't for 2 months, and my gynae is currently on holiday. He wants me to get scans done in the meantime, but first I need to bleed, it's very frustrating!

As he is away, I am very tempted to take month of my old BCP to induce a period so I can then get the scans done etc, as he suggested this is what he would prob do next anyway. Has anyone else been given progesterone/oestrogen combo after provera fail? Is that usually the next step? Do you think it's ok to use my initiative and take the combined pill just to induce a period prior to when I see him in 2 months time?

I am really struggling with a feeling of hopelessness/helplessness...and waiting 2 months just for him to suggest I take a month of BCP seems like such a waste...
