I'm really hoping someone can help my confusion! I was referred to a gynaecologist by my GP due to suspected ammenorrhea, and then went to see the gynae at the hospital as planned. the gynae did more tests, and today i went back to see him again for a second appt...however although my appt was with him, it was a different doc who saw me. i questioned why and they said they were seeing me 'as a team'. BUT due to my blood test results which i got back today they then subsequently referred me to an 'infertility specialist' at the same hospital. I'm confused as I thought that's who I was initially referred to from my GP Hmm is there really a difference between a 'gynaecologist' and an 'infertility specialist'? I currently feel like I'm being passed from person to person and nobody really cares :(

Sorry to hear you are unhappy with care you received. Totally normal though to see different doctors. You probably were referred to a general gynaecology clinic. At the clinic there is usually consultant and then various registrars. You probably have seen 2 registrars. Often in the early stage they are responsible for investigations etc and defer to consultant when they come back. Within gynaecology there are various specialist areas e.g. Infertility, oncology, uterine abnormalities etc.The particular consultant will have done further research/PhDs in that area. So given your results it has been decided the infertility specialist most appropriate to continue your care. However, you shouldn't feel that you are being passed round. Whoever you see should explain/listen to your questions about your care. If you are unhappy with your care then do contact PALS at your hospital to raise your concerns.

It seemed strange that my appointment letter for yesturday said i would see 'mr pickerell consultant', yet when i turned up a diff dr saw me who I'd never met before...and all they did was refer me again. Is that really normal? It really upset me Sad Especially as the Dr who saw me was a cancer dr and not a gynaecologist ...
