Infertility

First hospital appointment - how do I get what I want?

I have my first appointment regarding suspected secondary infertility in a couple of weeks time. I have a very strong suspicion that the problem is with my uterus as I am sure I have been (very briefly) pregnant three or four times since I had my DS. We've done a home test on my DH and his sperm seems fine; blood tests and ovulation sticks suggest that I am almost certainly ovulating.

Could somebody talk me through what happens in this first appointment? Would it be possible to get them to look at my womb before doing anything else? I don't want to waste time on tests when I have a reasonable hunch as to the problem. I'm completely clueless about hospitals in general and to be honest I'm rather scared about this appointment! Any information or guidance would be gratefully received.

A good doctor will always listen to their patients hunches. BUT some conditions like secondary infertility there are certain things that need to be excluded first or the dr could end up with egg on face and open themselves up for medical negligence. They will always look at uterus but also at everything else. So have patience and let them do their thing - mention once your hunch but don't keep in about it. Just be happy that they'll be thorough. Nothing more annoying than a know-it-all pt with an unscientific hunch when a doc is trying to practice good evidence based medicine (no offence, I'm generalising !!!)
