Confusing progesterone levels!! Help!!

Hello!

I've just been to GP for results from our preliminary tests (my husbands). Good news is he is fine but despite being told by another doctor over the phone a few weeks ago that my progesterone levels were consistent with ovulation, a different GP now says they aren't. I thought I ovulated late (~d21) so they did d20 (which came out as 4) and d27 which was 25.6. Apparently it needs to be >30? I'm really gutted. I wondered what other people's experiences have been?

I think it sounds like you haven't ovulated that cycle. I've had results as low as 1 and as high as 87 (on clomid and I did ovulate).

What is your GP suggesting?

She's referring me to a specialist. I really thought I was ovulating because I get +OPKs, a temp shift, sore boobs and EWCM. :(

It may be worth working out how long before your period the second blood draw was done. My first day 21 progesterone test result was similar to yours. However, when I got a printout of my results it said only valid if done 7 days before next period, and it was actually 8 days. The fertility clinic said there was a good chance that I had ovulated that cycle but the test was just a bit too early to give a positive result. While I think they need a result of 30 to positively confirm ovulation, a result below that, particularly in the 20s, doesn't necessarily mean you didn't.

Anyway, it's worth getting another test done next cycle - the specialist will probably do it, but asking your gp can avoid wasting time having to wait for the appropriate time in your cycle. (For me ovulation was confirmed second time round which was one less thing to worry about!)

Oh that's good, thank you! I do think my cycles are a bit rubbish- my luteal phase is v short so those bloods were done just 3 days before my period arrived :( I think I oved on d21, they tested d20 and d27 and my period came d30ish. So I think maybe there is something wrong
