Hi im new so hope i've found the right bit. I have two dds from a previous relationship and dh and i have been trying for a year to concieve. I've had three early miscarriages (one 8 wks, and two at 5 wks) the last two because they were so early i didn't go to the docs so only one is on my records. Doc has referred us to see a fertility doc and i am unsure what to expect? What questions will they ask? Do they run tests? I have a phobia of all things medical so need to be prepared. Thanks

ODFOD Camille Hmm

Pig first don't worry. Given you have 2 DDs already they won't be too concerned at this stage i'd imagine. You'll probably be sent for blood tests to measure key hormones at stages of your cycle as a starting point.

Your DH will probably get more attention at this stage if he has no other children. Likely a couple of external exams to start, then semen analysis.

Did your GP discuss your MCs with you (sorry you've had to go through that 3 times)? If they're not all on the record you'll need to be boldly to get them to look into this more, otherwise you'll likely be told they're 'just bad luck'. You can push for private tests to see if there's more than just shitty luck here. Some clinics run the Chicago tests which can help you plan any treatment but again as you have DDs they may not advise you to do this.

Sorry for my brevity - my DS (the result of ICSI!) is getting hungry! I'll try and pop back later!

Good luck though and please ignore quacks like the pp!

So sorry for your losses.

As you already have 2 dc, and have experienced recent mc it is quite probable that you will not need IVF. You should really push for all three of your miscarriages to be recorded.
My experience with NHS is that they like to draw out the testing for as long as possible, blood tests, sperm annalysis, dye test, etc before they will even consider referring you for IVF or similar. You may find that as you already have children from a previous relationship you will not be entitled to IVF on the NHS-if that is what you actually need.

Nothing to be scared of in the fertility appointments other than some quite personal questions!

Good luck
