Infertility

which Glasgow private clinic??

DeannaC · 05/06/2014 17:49

I'm looking for advice on which private clinic to choose in Glasgow for IVF treatment. I'm 41 years old and this will be my first attempt at fertility treatment. Has anyone been to the Nuffield, the GCRM (Glasgow Centre for Reproductive Medicine) or the GRMU (Glasgow Reproductive Medicine Unit at the Royal)? I've got all the literature, visited the websites and visited them in person and still can't decide! Perhaps hearing personal experiences might help. I'd appreciate any info, advice :-)

Thanks,
Dee

I was recommended the GCRM although haven't yet had to go as am getting NHS funding just now. The recommendation was from my GP who I regard as a friend and who has given me much extracurricular advice (all of it good) in the past. She has twins whom i expect were conceived there.

Thanks for the advice. Are you receiving your treatment at the Royal? How are you finding it?

No I am at Monklands. I had treatment there before too. Only starting next week (I expect). It's all very stressful. Took a long time to get the meds right for me (18months) and it was an awful time of my life. I now have a lovely 2 year old though so it was all worth it. Best of luck.

Wow! That's a long time to sort out the meds! reading other threads I am beginning to realize that that can happen. It seems like it's a constant wait, this whole IVF thing. I'm glad it eventually worked for you :-) it gives me hope!

Yes it all takes time. Rarely does it happen right away and that's the most difficult part of the experience. Waiting, trying, being disappointed, starting again with hopes high, disappointed.....

I am currently going through the royal, for iui,
I don't have anything it compare it to, but all the staff are really lovely, my act treatment is at the Nuffield, something to do with the lab at the royal.
If you have any questions I'll try and answer.
Best of luck ladies x

Thanks aaLaa! I'm wondering about appointment times, are they quite flexible and do you usually get seen on time? I'm going to have to fit them around work so I'll need early morning or evening appointments. I've also read on other sites that it's difficult to reach them by phone, have you experienced this? How is your treatment going? Good luck to you too!

I am at the beginning of Ix and treatments in Glasgow, been to GCRM for initial assessment and have initial consultation tonight. I chose them due to distance from work/home and good stats. Will keep you posted.

I'm under investigation at GRI but have been told there's a 5 month waiting list for and HSG. Going to GRCM in the next couple of weeks. They've been great so far (even though it's just been on the phone / via post)

Thanks for the info! I liked GCRM but they are so much more expensive, I wasn't sure what you'd get for paying the extra money. Any one else out there have experience of the private side of the Royal?

I am still an nhs patient at the moment, not sure how much treatment is but I can prob find out for you if you need,

I mean the theatre bit of treatment is at the Nuffield,

Regarding appointment times they do early and late, I've only ever been early, usually 7.45 so easily before work. They are lovely, I was scanned yesterday and required another scan today but no pre work appointments, when I mentioned I was scared to come at work time and therefore having to mention to my boss the nurse said just come in at 7.45 and we.ll squeeze you in (I have been there quite a lot so getting to know them well)

A few times I have called and been passed about people on the pogo but you always get to someone eventually and if they can't walk and you leave a message they always return the call,

Hope all this helps x

Hi Ginger

I went to their open day last month and was given a pricelist then. IVF is 4100-4500 but that doesn't include the pretreatment assessments such as blood tests and SA. It also doesn't include your consultations (150 for gynaecologist, 80 for nurse. It does include the cost of the meds tho.

Hope that helps!

A MASSIVE vote for Gcrm.

I loved them.

The care is incredible and they're genuinely rooting for you.

Their counsellor is superb too.

Their success rate is the best in Scotland too.

GL x
