My niece is desperate to have IVF but lives in an area that doesn't fund any cycles at all. She and her DH are trying to save but obvs it is a huge amount for a young couple. Recently there were stories in the local press about the 'ban' being lifted, policies reviewed etc. The GP says he doesn't know anything about it. Where does she start trying to find out what is happening and what the likelihood is of her being able to have even one cycle funded?

I know exactly how she feels, its shocking that this is a problem but it is :(
She needs to start with the local PCT a quick google search will give her the details. Then email them to find out what the policy is and if it is under review, I have found them to be really helpful in the past. My PCT offered no funding but the neighbouring council offered funding for 3 rounds! Can I ask what part of the country she is in?

Thank you so much. She's in the North East - I've googled what was the PCT and is now the CCG and found some details of the new policy and a number to ring for details. It looks like she should be able to get 2 cycles funded! She's going to ring first thing Monday so fingers crossed.

I think if she can research into the NICE guidelines for treatment she should be able to fight the CCG/PCT as NIcE sets the guidelines. We are in the process of treatment and our counsellor said that is what to do however at 35 I'm to old to delay treatment so have gone private.

Just to add to this remember you can take your NHS funding to ant clinic - it's often better to take it to a private clinic as they can be more on the ball!!good luck
