PCOS and ovulation symptoms

Hi ladies, I'm wondering if anyone could help me shed some light on my baffling body!

I've been referred for an ultra sound to see if I have PCOS because I haven't had a period since coming off the pill in December. This will be the first test, I haven't had any blood tests etc yet.

But if I have got PCOS, then why do I keep getting AF/ ovulation symptoms?? I get sore boobs, cramps, ewcm the lot! Except AF of course. I've POAS loads of times now and get a bfn every time.

Does anyone else get this with PCOS?

Your body looks like it is trying but failing to ovulate for some reason.

Do not POAS for the time being; seeing repeated negatives is not good for morale.

If periods are non existant blood tests can actually be done according to calendar days; a day 2 test can be done as well as a day 21. The day 2 one is more important as this measures the level of LH against FSH. LH and FSH are two very important hormones as they kickstart the ovulation process. If these are awry then ovulation is affected.

Hopefully you will have the ultrasound scan done soon; they should do an internal scan to assess the uterine cavity and ovaries. Polycystic ovaries can appear larger than normal size (a normal size ovary is about the size of a walnut). Such ovaries too can also have a "ring of pearls" appearance with multiple cystic follicles. These follicles do disappear only to be replaced by further cystic follicles. PCOS, if you were to be diagnosed with this, is a very individualistic disorder that does affect each woman with it very differently.

Hi, I have had a few friends who didnt get their periods back until 6 months post pill, sounds like your hormones are doing something so am surprised they didnt do any blood tests on you as would be able to diagnose something abnormal straight away.

I would ask for blood tests too as a scan can't conclusively tell you what is wrong.

I didn't have periods (and still haven't) over a year after coming off the pill and I had a scan that showed polycystic ovaries and was wrongly diagnosed with that. Then I had more blood tests that showed low oestrogen so was diagnosed with hypothalamic amenorrhea instead (less common than PCOS) Hope you find out either way soon or your periods come back before the scan!

Good luck x

Thanks for the info Atilla. The doctor said I should get a scan at the hospital in 5-6 weeks, so just waiting on a letter with an appointment now.

That's interesting j200. I hope I'm the same as your friends and everything is fine. I hope everything is being sorted for you too!
