After 3 full failed IVF's last year, I am about to embark on my second last attempt. I started an IVF thread during my last IVF, and everyone got pregnant but me. So I swore I wouldn't do that again this time. But I find myself wanting to chat with people going through what I am, so I am starting the thread again. Join me as I seem to be a BFP magnet!

Hi Shelley,
When are you starting? I'm not starting until next month now due to a mess up at the hospital! Just wanted to wish you luck-I hope it happens for you this time x

BuddyNu · 06/03/2014 09:37

I am starting sniffing on Saturday. It is my first time doing ivf. I have one DD almost 3 for whom I am so grateful. She was naturally conceived. I have since had two miscarriages, iui which ended in another miscarriage and another failed iui. I am 40 with low amh so time, eggs and money is not on my side. Having done iui I know a lot of what is in store but it feels almost final as after ivf there is no where else. However I am very positive

suzylee73 · 06/03/2014 10:39

I'm waiting for my egg transfer but I will still be following and supporting you Shellster Smile
BuddyNu, I'm 40 and I have just had 12 eggs collected. So it can be done Grin

carriebella · 06/03/2014 15:14

I start at the end of this month. Been ttc 7 yrs but this will be my first ivf. Not feeling very optimistic though, it feels like it will be the final nail in the coffin, I really need to find some positivity from somewhere.
Is anyone having/had the endo scratch?

Happilymarried155 · 06/03/2014 16:01

The fs specialist asked me about this yesterday. My first thought was no because it sounds horrible! But I suppose I should look into it...x

Dreamy33 · 06/03/2014 18:14

Hi all,

I'm starting injections on Tuesday so feeling nervous and excited but mostly worried right now! Tried ivf cycle once before but it was cancelled before ec so fingers crossed off this time.

Hope to keep in touch with others going through the same thing. Nice to hold hands sometimes! X

Shellster52 · 07/03/2014 00:54

Thanks so much for the well wishes Happilymarried.

It's nice to have you here BuddyNu and Dreamy. I have a very low AMH and don't get many eggs in IVF, so it is nice to chat to those who have low AMH/previous poor IVF response instead of watching other women on here getting 20 eggs if that is not going to be the case for us.

Dreamy, are they changing your protocol/medications this time to try and get more eggs? Have you ever had your AMH tested?

carriebella, I can understand your negativity if all you have had is 7 long years of disappointment. Have you ever been given a diagnosis? And to answer your question, I am not having the scratch. Seems quite a common thing now in England from what I read on here but I am in Australia and don't hear of it here.

Well I am going on holidays for our long weekend so I will chat more when I am back!

OP posts:
Happilymarried155 · 07/03/2014 07:03

I have been doing some research on the scratch Carrie and it all seems good, I have emailed my fs for abit info but I think I might give it a try! It's only our first time at ivf but I'd do anything to improve our chances of it working!

Have a nice holiday shellster x

BuddyNu · 07/03/2014 09:27

Just a interesting tip for those with thin uterine lining. I have thin uterine lining noted while undergoing iui. my Clinic recommended taking vitamin e. I took about 800mg per day this month ( I think you can take up to 1000mg). I ovulate on day 18/19 and have noted this since I started tracking in the last 4 years. This month I ovulated on day 14 for the very first time. I have never ovulated so early. I changed nothing else except to introduce the vit e so it's either a happy coincidence or it has had a welcome additional outcome !

carriebella · 07/03/2014 12:59

Hi all
Have a nice holiday Shelster. I had a diagnosis of 'moderate endometriosis' back in 2010 after a lap and dye although I think it has got worse since they gave me Clomid to try as now I get pain every month which I never before. Other than that all tests have come back normal.

Exactly my thinking Happily married! Ive bought a 2 cycle ivf package and that will be it , we can never afford any more so I want to throw anything at it that will give me the best chances and have no regrets, at around 150 its worth a shot. The stats have apparently been good but i dont know the results for people with Endo.

BuddyNu Ive actually been taking vitamin e after doing some research on it but only been taking 200 mg maybe I should take more? Is it ok to take when undergoing ivf? I know it can thin your blood...

So, my af is imminent, I am on 2nd day of spotting so hopefully will be day 1 over the weekend and then I can get some exact dates to start down regging, it will feel more real then.

Good luck starting sniffing tomorrow BuddyNu!

JustWant1 · 07/03/2014 16:39

Hi can I join?
I am having a myomectomy in May after which il be referred for ivf. I'm only 26 and feel incapable as all my friends and family get pregnant so quick. I have under active thyroid and pcos and a fibroid on the outside of my uterus leaning on the uterus hence the myomectomy.
I don't have a clue how ivf works as I never thought I would get there! Is anyone going private? What clinics would u all recommend ? Xx

suzylee73 · 07/03/2014 17:20

Hi Justwant1,
Where abouts in the country are you? Are you going private?

JustWant1 · 08/03/2014 00:49

West Yorkshire, thinking about going private but don't know if it will make a difference!

Shellster52 · 10/03/2014 08:57

Back from holidays! Thanks for the tip about the Vit E Buddy. I have been taking it already, but like Carrie, I take a much lower dose than 800. Seeing my nurse to get my IVF drugs tomorrow and will ask about this.

Has day one arrived yet Carrie? I have never done your down reg protocol. I am currently taking estrogen daily from day 20 (yesterday) until day 3 of my next cycle. Day 2 of my next cycle I start the drugs.

Welcome JustWant1, I am in Australia so don't know your system to make recommendations. Hopefully other ladies can. I wish I had youth on my side as you do, although I can still certainly understand the pain and frustration at what you are going through.

OP posts:
carriebella · 10/03/2014 13:22

Hi all

Justwant1, I am going private as I don't qualify for NHS. I live in Bristol and will be cycling at CRGW in Wales. May be a bit far for you. The staff all seem lovely so far but I couldn't make a genuine recommendation yet as its all new to me too.

Hi Shellster, I'm having a strange period, the same thing happened last month where I never really got a real period just very heavy spotting for 10 days. I'm on day 5 of heavy spotting today so I have rang my clinic and am awaiting a call back, hopefully will just count today as day 1.
I dont really understand the differences/reasons between the different protocols, can anyone explain them to me?

Shellster52 · 11/03/2014 04:39

Did you hear back from the clinic Carrie. What was the verdict?

There are SO MANY different protocols and when I have researched, there are such complicated scientific outcomes giving each protocol pros and cons. So not sure I can give a quick summary without writing a novel!

I can explain my protocol. Now taking 4mg estrogen daily from day 20 of current cycle until day 3 of next cycle/IVF cycle. Studies have shown that this helps the follicles to all grow at a more similar rate, and therefore helpful to poor responders like myself to hopefully get one or two more eggs. I am then doing a 'boost/flare protocol' during IVF. This means that I will start sniffing Synarel on CD2. This will cause my brain to be purged of all it's hormones and once they hit my bloodstream, my ovaries will get a kick start from all these hormones. I also start Menopur and Puregon on day two to get my follicles growing.

What protocol will your clinic be doing for you?

OP posts:
BuddyNu · 11/03/2014 09:20

I am also on synarel. Do you know what the side effects are ? I feel my heart beat a little bit more quickly but other than that nothing more unusual. Im only on day 24 so it feels so long until actual stimming starts

carriebella · 11/03/2014 12:02

Hey, so I now have dates, yesterday was day 1 and I start taking Suprecur on the 30th, anyone else taking this? I feel a lot more positive now with something to aim for.

My Clinic has not really explained much about the protocol so as not to confuse me I think, maybe I look a bit dim! All I know is that the suprecur will switch off your cycle so that everything is then medicated and controlled by them. I find out more about my stimming drugs at my baseline scan but i'm having my meds delivered on the 26th so shall probably google like mad then! That is interesting to know about the estrogen, with it being my first cycle, I am looking forward to seeing how I respond and maybe getting a few answers.

What day are you on now?

Shellster52 · 12/03/2014 00:13

So carriebella your period will come around the first week of April and then the IVF cycle will start. It seems you will be a bit behind me then. Today is day 23 of my cycle which usually lasts 25-27 days. Can I ask why you don't qualify for NHS? Doesn't seem fair! I am in Australia and so not fully familiar with your system. Probably good they don't give you too much info. The more I googled, the more stressed I got about what could go wrong with this protocol. I have since banned myself from Dr Google!

Dreamy, how's the injections going? Are you doing different meds/protocol this time to get a different response after your last cycle was cancelled? When is your first scan to find out how things are going?

Buddy, I have doubled my vit e dose based on what you wrote. I assume your periods are usually light then if your lining is thin? Will be very curious to hear if your next period is heavier then. Keep me posted!

Hi. I'm an IVF newbie...about to start down reg tomorrow. Due to timings I'm not having my implications appointment until tomorrow, so I'm feeling a little in the dark at the moment - I'm sure all will become clear, but still. I've been told I'll be on Pregnyl, Cyclogest, Suprecur and Menopur - but I've got no idea which are down reg and which are stimms - can anyone shed any light?

Dreamy33 · 12/03/2014 18:08

So at last I'm on day two of suprecur and feeling very brave having managed first two injections. I'm such a wimp! It really doesn't hurt at all, it's just a case of mind over matter and I seem to have a mental block about inserting needles. I'm sure I'll be a pro in a few weeks time!

Different protocol this time Shellster. Last time was short (straight to stimms) which didn't work out for me. This time I've been on the pill for a few weeks and have just started suprecur to shut down my ovaries. First scan not for a few weeks so will know more then. Keeping everything crossed this time round!

How is everyone getting on? Does anyone have similar dates to me?

Carriebella, I'm being treated at lwc in cardiff but have heard good things about crgw.

Shellster52 · 13/03/2014 00:50

Welcome Purple, to answer your question:
Pregnyl - Trigger injection taken 36 hours before egg collection
Cyclogest - No idea but I am sure Dr Google can shed some light
Supercur - Down reg medication
Menopor - FSH/LH follicle stimulating medication

Its such a nervewrecking wait isn't it Dreamy, to see if the new protocol produces better results. Can I ask what your response was like last time and what dose of meds you took? The most mature eggs I ever got was 4 - pretty poor response. So it seems I am a few weeks ahead of you then. Today is CD24 for my and I start stims on day 2 of next cycle. I think my cycle is only 2 days before yours Buddy, so we will be going through things at the same time which will be nice. But depends when my periods arrives as it can be anywhere from 24-28 days long.

Thank you, Shellster (have changed my moniker, but I'm just as purple) - I had my "implications" discussion today, so it's all a bit clearer now. Cyclogest is the bum bullets, it turns out. I've just done my first injection of Suprecur....I was dreading the stabbing, but I'm pleasantly surprised that it's quite bearable.

I keep re-reading your first post, btw, and hoping that this isn't your second-to-last attempt, and that it's your last instead, because it works Grin

Dreamy - are these down-reg injections or stimms?

And thanks, Ladies for bringing up endo scratch - I asked about it today and they were quite positive about it being helpful for me. Might be too late to do it as I started down-reg today, but they were going to find out.

Shellster52 · 14/03/2014 00:01

That's very sweet of you ourple to be reading my post and wishing me well. Don't know anyone in real life going through what I am so the kind and supportive words on here mean so much.

Well my period arrived today. I have tried supplements to lengthen my cycle but it was still short at 25 days. A bit depressing after reading shorter cycles decrease IVF success. Tomorrow I start the drugs. I just phoned my nurse and am waiting for a call back to book my first ultrasound. This is really nerve wrecking as I usually don't have many antral follicles - so this ultrasound will reveal how well poorly I am likely to respond.

OP posts:
Shellster52 · 15/03/2014 09:58

Well I started this thread to have a daily IVF vent to get me through another IVF. No one else has posted but I am posting again anyway! Just kinda using this as a personal diary so I can have an outlet.

My period has finished after only 1 1/2 days of light bleeding. I read that our cycles get lighter as we head towards menopause so I really think my fertility is running low. This IVF needs to work as I think I am running out of time. So I started the drugs today. The injections are fine as I've done them before. My ultrasound has been booked for Monday. Just tomorrow to get through and then Monday I will have some idea.
