Hi all, After reducing my BMI from 44 to 29 I finally got the prescription for clomid I'd been waiting for. Anyhow AF arrived 31/12/2013 and I was told to take clomid CD 2-6. I had scan on CD10 which showed 1 follicle but thin womb lining, had another scan CD12 which showed the same follicle (17mm - with very definite round shape) but still thin womb lining, just had another scan today CD17 and follicle is still showing but irregular shape and only 3mm which nurse says indicates the follicle has released the content (fluid and egg) meaning ov has taken place. I've been doing OPKs since CD10 scan and no +ve but today's scan indicated ov has happened. I have just done IPK and.....it's +ve today!! Now got to have bloods gone wed or thurs to check progesterone levels. Womb lining today is much thicker at 7.5mm which nurse said is absolutely ideal. I feel like I should be quite pleased as things seem to be going to plan and it's just the first cycle but I actually feel quite flat and like it's not going to work. What do you ladies think? Particularly interested in people who have had clomid success and how my progression compares. Thanks in advance

Hi, I am on my second cycle of clomid (100mg this time) as 50 didn't work for me. Like you everything looked really positive from the scans and my dr even said it looked like I had ovulated but unfortunately when the blood tests came back my progesterone was low and I hadn't, it was a cyst on the scan rather than a ruptured follicle- it was so disappointing!! I am supposed to be ovulating today according to my scan on wed and have two follicles this time so praying one of them pops. Hopefully it works for you, it does seem to work for a lot of people. Keep us posted x

Congrats on reducing your BMI from 44 to 29! What an effort. I have also lost weight with TTC as my motivation. You say you re interested in hearing from people who have had 'Clomid success'. I have had Clomid but not success so sorry if you feel like I am wasting your time by replying but I couldn't read and run when not many others have answered you. Actually after my three Clomid cycles, it was discovered hubby has 100% abnormal sperm so this may be the reason Clomid did not work for us.

You are interested in how your progression compares so I will tell you how it went for me. In the three cycles, I usually had 2-3 follicles that they said were big enough to ovulate. I never actually got told my womb lining thickness but after the third cycle of Clomid, my period had reduced to almost nothing (a tiny bit of bleeding for half a day after 3rd cycle) so I stopped. This is because Clomid works by binding to your estrogen receptors which is good to get follicles growing because your brain thinks your follicles aren't growing as your estrogen receptors are not getting any estrogen, but bad for your lining because your lining needs estrogen to make it grow.

Were you not ovulating naturally? Is this the reason you were prescribed Clomid?

Hi ladies, thanks for your replies. I wasn't ovulating hence the reason for clomid. When I was much heavier, I didn't have periods much at all. I now have a regular cycle but still no signs of ovulation hence trying me now on Clomid. After I posted above, I did an OPK and low and behold, it was a definite positive......the first ever definite. I've had one before with two lines showing but test line very faint. Today it was two strong, equally coloured lines. Whoop whoop. Been DTD everyday lately and again today (sorry TMI) so hopefully it is my time. Also, not sure if coincidence but this aft and tonight, my lower tummy feels tender and sort of heavy inside. A little bit cramps almost like mild period type pains. Does this happen with ovulation as I can't say I normally get this feeling at this point in my cycle. This is normally the feeling I get the days leading up to AF arriving?
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Wow. Really shows how weight is linked with fertility if you have regular periods after losing weight. Must get off my butt and lose the last 5kg I have been wanting to lose.

I never get ovulation pain so I can't comment to know what that feels like.

It really does. The dr always used to say when I was younger and moaning about my hit and miss periods that losing weight would help but I though it was just the dr saying that as if I went with a cough if also be told to lose weight!

BUT literally the month after I sorted my diet out and started going to gym the periods appeared. Started every 6 weeks and it's gradually reduced to between 4weeks 2 days to 4 weeks 5 days!

So just to clarify, even before you lost all the weight, just changing your diet and going to the gym got your periods in order? That really makes me need to get my butt in gear. By my BMI, I am only 3 kilograms overweight so I could lose that in two weeks if tried. But I have been a bit bad after my last IVF failed because it's hard to keep motivated when all I get for my efforts is BFN after BFN with each IVF. I am starting IVF again the cycle after next so if even just eating healthy and going to the gym got your periods sorted before you lost the weight, then I had better get motivated again and start being healthy now so I have my hormones in order and healthy eggs for my next IVF.

Here's hoping that your lack of periods and lack of ovulation was the only missing piece in your infertility trouble and that you get your BFP very soon.

Yeah shellster, in August 2012 I started my weight loss journey at 20st. Literally the month after I started this new regime, I got a period. 6 weeks later my next period etc etc. The time between gradually reduced each cycle and now for the last 6-7 months it's been between 4wk 2days to 4wk 5days so quite a normal cycle length. My periods before were extremely irregular, often going several months without one. The problem I have though is, although I have a period, I'm not ovulating which is why clomid has now been prescribed. I'm now just under 14st and feel better than ever.....still overweight but still on the weight loss journey! Hopefully for me clomid will be the answer. I'm not sure is cope with the head mash of IVF. Good luck to all the ladies trying!
