My FSH is 20 but i really think i might be ovulating

I'm 38 and was told by NHS clinic that i am borderline menopausal after getting a high cycle day 3 FSH a few days ago. It was 20 and i am heartbroken. Have been having irregular periods now for around 2 years which are lighter and shorter than they used to be. Of course all this pointed towards menopause or perimenopause even though the clinic suspected polycystic ovaries. That was up until a few days ago when i got that awful FSH. The nurse told me that no way would i be ovulating with an FSH that high. 3 cycles ago my doctor did a day 28 blood test to see if i had ovulated and i had, my progesterone was at a good level. My last FSH, a few cycles ago was 11.3, so quite a normal level. The nurse at the clinic said FSH can bounce around quite a bit from cycle to cycle in perimenopause. Last months cycle i'm sure i ovulated around days 14/15 as i got positives on 2 different OPK tests. I don't know what my FSH was for that cycle. Anyway, this cycle my FSH was 20, so i'm supposedly not going to ovulate this cycle. However, yesterday, which was cycle day 10 i noticed what i think may have been egg white cervical mucus twice when i went to the toilet. It was a long, clear, stretchy strand of mucus. Also i had cramping low in my stomach and my boobs have swelled slighty. I haven't done an OPK as i don't want to get my hopes up. But i really think i may be ovulating even though nurse says it's impossible. It seems that my ovulations are happening at random times with each cycle. I was hoping that Clomid might correct this. I was meant to be starting Clomid with this cycle/-. Then i found i had that high FSH a few days later. I wated to wait to see what my FSH was first so i didn't take the Clomid, even though the consultant agvised to start on day 3. At the time of prescribing the Clomid he was going by my 11.3 FSH. Now that FSH is 20 i expect i won;t be allowed the Clomid now. So, i wonder, could ir really be possible to ovulate with an FSH of 20 ?

Hi erilou,

I know absolutely nothing about this..I don't even know what FSH and OPK stands for, so I'm clearly clueless, but suggest you keep DTD (I know that one, I looked it up a while back [wink) as much as possible. You're probably already doing that, anyway.

I read on another thread that our bodies have a last ditch attempt at getting pregnant specifically at this time when our bodies are preparing for menopause, someone referred to it as an 'egg dump' [sceptical] which sounds awful but explains it well enough!

I'm in no position to get anyone's hopes up, I'm not knowledgeable enough to be able to do that, but to me it sounds a little less definitely final that perhaps you first thought.

Just dtd - and from my experience I succeeded with low ovarian reserve. Just dtd as often as you can and have a normal sex life as it might just work. Sex isn't just about babies although it can be hard to remember that sometimes.

Hello

I'm ovulating and my FSH was 19 and 23 those cycles, I'm using a clear blue monitor so know I did, I have had 2 cycles of ivf this winter and my FSH had been steady at 7/8 for the past 2 years then 10 weeks after a failed ivf it was 19, 4 weeks after that 23!

I had it checked both months to confirm before the ivf clinic discharge me which they have, I'm 30, I so know how you feel

Lots of love xx
