Ttc with diminished ovarian reserve

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some hope here! we started ttc in may last year, got pregnant after 4 months but it was a blighted ovum and I had to have an ERPC. all very unpleasant. However, me being far too curious, I insisted on getting tests done and oh has it bitten me in the backside. Turns out i have low ovarian reserve, and a scan on Xmas eve showed I only had 6 follicles this month and my FSH was 12, I ve not got the AMH back yet but am expecting it will be equally rubbish!

we re due to see the consultant in Jan to look into IVF! But I m really scared now that its never going to happen for us. To add insult to injury, I'm going to be 35 tomorrow and almost all of our friends have babies or are having babies. I also lost both of my parents by the time I was just 32, hence the reason for not TTC earlier as I was far too emotionally fragile.

anyone got any hope to share?

I have to be quick as need to put ds to bed, but couldn't read and run. I too had low ovarian reserve, I had an incredibly low AMH level, and my FSH level was 11.1 when it was last tested. So pretty similar to yours.
We went through IVF, and had four failed cycles at one hospital but then changed to a different hospital where they performed ICSI and gave me steroids, and I will be 36 weeks pregnant tomorrow.

I went through periods of thinking it would never happen for us, and started considering egg donation, but with the right treatment somehow a miracle has happened. Please don't give up hope! The road may be tough, but you never know what's just around the corner Smile

Good luck!

I had an AMH just above the infertile category. I got pregnant on round 4 of Ivf at 40 after taking dhea for 3 months plus prior to egg collection. It could have been luck or down to the other actions I took (eg eating more protein, no alcohol or caffeine) but there is a good chance it was the dhea that helped a viable egg develop. I have mentioned dhea so many times on here I feel like a shady drug pusher! But for those interested dhea is not licensed in the UK though it is not illegal (melatonin is another eg of this). This means your consultant can't prescribe it - you need to order from the USA. Two consultants (one nhs one private) recommended this route to me.

Thanks. Can I ask though, does DHEA have any side effects or did u discuss it with your doctor first? I ve thought about it but I m scared to take it in case it has any dodgy side effects that make things worse!

No side effects in my case. Both private and nhs consultants recommended it to me. Private one had a stash in a cupboard but I had already ordered micronised dhea from the states as I had read on fertility friends that it was better.

Just wanted to add I also got my ds after taking dhea. I was 39, fsh 11.9 and amh almost undetectable.
I conceived naturally. I also tried lots of other supplements to help egg quality - as I thought if I ad a low reserve I needed a good egg.
Good luck

I have low ovarian reserve but have an fsh of 6.. Consultant said old school rules he would go with my fsh result but nearly 4 years (had a mmc 4 years ago hence ttc still) on no results at all.. I'm almost 42 and feel this is my last year of ttc..dh refuses alternative medicine as we have older dc..
Can I ask how much dhea did you try ?
Thank you!

I tried for 10 years, discovered I had rubbish amh and fsh levels, got pregnant with twins on my second round of ICSI, lost them at 20 weeks and swore I'd never try again. Had another go, got pregnant and had a beautiful little girl in 2012. Then somehow got a natural bfp when she was 9 months and now have another beautiful little girl who is 10 weeks old! I only had two natural follicles on my initial scan and they thought chances of successful Ivf were very very low. So don't be too downhearted! Xxx

Im 38 and was told last week that my day 3 FSH was 20. I'm devastated as it seems i'm most likely menopausal. I do ovulate, if not every cycle. Just hoping that by some miracle i can get pregnant naturally.
