Confirmed PCO

Hi,
Just after some advice really...Just been told I have PCO, a scan has confirmed it. I appreciate I was lucky to get the scan so early on as it seems many of you have had to wait a while longer and I also feel a bit pathetic when some of you have obviously been struggling for a long time. I come off the pill and last bleed was beginning of September, the scan came about because of another issue rather than TTC. But its all connected really as I came off the pill because we want to TTC after xmas. So knowing I have PCO I am wondering how to approach the doc tomorrow? I don't want to have to wait months before they consider helping as we know there is an issue. Also in my teens (a decade ago) my AF was so irregular, the bleeds only regulated on the pill - but that was clearly the pill rather than the body.
Any help or advise would be good! I have googled but that was a bad idea!!

Hi, these threads might be of interest:

I have PCOS too and am trying to conceive. It has been a year and, finally, I have an appointment with my GP next week so we can figure out what I can do next. I am hoping for a scan too (had one years ago which confirmed that I had PCOS) and perhaps bloodtests... and, to be honest, I’m not sure what else.

I know the first thing we are supposed to do is lose weight, and that is what I’m doing now - changing my diet and exercising.

btw - would you mind telling me (on this thread) what your GP advises? Obviously, if you’d rather not, that’s completely fine!! I only ask because I have an appointment next week and it would be really useful to know what sort of things GPs advise and what sort of questions you found helpful in asking... or wished you’d asked! That sort of thing.

I’m very nervous about my appointment - can you tell?!?!

Thanks, had a good read.
Of course, I will share the info when I get it....Its so confusing all this, hopefully I will know some more next week, appointment is on Thursday. Knowing I have PCOS I don't want to have to wait months before they do anything useful. That said, I think I will be treated now as all bloods, swabs and samples done. Not sure if I will get options or if they will just tell me what's what!
Let me know how you get on, sharing the experience may help each other.

Hi I have pcos.. I had scans and bloods done. Depending on what they find will determine what they do next. I also had a hsg done to check my tubes. An ultrasound revealed a fibroid so I need to get that removed before treatment but as long as all is well with you and there r no other issues you should be given clomid which will help you ovulate and regulate ur period and then hopefully give you that bfp x good luck x

Thanks, guess I just need to be patient and see what they say next week....I am not patient at the best of times.
Hope all goes with with the fibroid removal!

It’s useful to know about clomid - my GP has never mentioned that - and also about the hsg which I hadn’t heard of before. I shall mention both to her and see what she says. In an ideal world, I’d be referred to a good specialist. Actually, in a properly ideal world, I’d already be pregnant!!

Yes, of course, I’ll let you know what happens with my appointment. I hope that booking a scan won’t be too difficult and it won’t take forever to get an appointment. Everything seems to take forever and it is so frustrating when you realise that they aren’t even telling you everything, i.e., about clomid and other things that might help.

I don’t know what I’d do without this forum!

I am going with the approach of seeing what they offer then if they fail to mention what I have picked up from here I'll bring it up. Don't see the point it of only getting half the info. You are right Starrynight, this forum is a huge help!!

As for diet, I have now cut gluten, sugar and dairy - had been slowly trying to cut them out anyway. But now I have a real reason to do it rather than a half heated attempt to improve my training.

It totally depends on your consultant /hospital. Hopefully appointments will come around quick but if there is one thing you have to be it's patient. Something I lack but unfortunately have no choice in the matter. Unless you have an IVF lab in ur garage then unfortunately you have to rely on doctors. I've found being really nice and polite to mine really helps when at times I've just wanted to deck her, the truth is I have to rely on her coz it's not happening naturally. It's a journey! I first went to the doctor in April and then hubby had his semen analysis done. Then I had hsg in June, ultrasound in July which found a fibroid, a laproscopy done to remove the fibroid in November but then got told it was too big so then had a mri scan done last week to detail exactly where it is. I am currently waiting for my consultant to get the results and decide whether or not she will do a bigger op to remove it or feel it's OK to progress with clomid. Really hope we can just get the clomid but you never know. All this within less than a year shows what can be done so if things r not moving quick enough consider going private if u can or change hospitals.

Hope you get good news and the clomid Justwant1!! Thanks for sharing what you've been through so far. Keep us posted...

I too lack patience, guess I am going to have to learn. And I have also already wanted to deck the GP!! Oh dear, not a good start!!

Just waiting for results from my mri scan. Fingers crossed I don't have to have a myamectomy, really can't do with having another operation. I just want treatment ie clomid new. Totally fed up with it all.

Fingers crossed for you! I am already fed up waiting and I appear to have jumped a lot of the waiting game, so can think how hard it must as time passes.... Hope you get good results soon! Keep us posted....
