Meds once pregnant

Has anyone else's consultant talked about putti f them on meds once pregnant? I got a letter and a prescription from my consultant saying once I'm (fingers crossed) pregnant I have to start taking aspirin, steroids and some form of heprin. Not a mention of why though...

I thought it was something to do with my Sjogren's syndrome as it came after a bit about it in the letter and he also mentioned he would consult with my rheumatologist, but when I rang his secretary to ask she ask if I'd had a mc (I haven't) and said he often puts ladies on such drugs in early pregnancy...

There are complications in pregnancy with Sjogren's but mc is not one of them as far as I'm aware. There're the same steroids I take whenu vasculitis flares (I'm falling apart if you hadn't already guessed ;-) ) and they really make me bloat up and I'll have to self inject the heprin. It's not going to be easy to hide early pregnancy...!!!

Anyone else been told anything similar?

Hi Littlemim - I am not familiar with Sjogrens but I had a successful IVF cycle following immune and implantation failure related issues (treated with humira and intrallipids). In early pregnancy I was on all sorts of meds, but even now (23 weeks) I am doing clexane injections twice a day as well as aspirin. Clexane is similar to heparin I think (prevents clotting). The clinic have told me to expect to be on clexane until 34 weeks!!! I hope this helps and all the very best for a successful outcome!

Thanks Dannygirl.

It's just annoying when they send you these letters and don't bother to explain. He might be the doctor but it's still my choice whether to takes meds or not. Info would be nice...

I'm not familiar with sjogrens either sorry but my clinic advised that if there is a question of inflammatory, immune or clotting issues then they treat with empirical basic immunes meds (prednisolone, aspirin and clexane). Worked for me after having several miscarriages and failed fertility treatments without this combo of meds.
Best of luck x
