Bang on 28 day cycle...period started today

So iv'e been trying to conceive for 15 months, having irregular periods until today. Period started today exactly 28 days since the last one. In my 20s and early 30s my cycle was always very regular, 28 days and i was always highly fertile. I'm 38 now. I have a few cysts on my ovaries and my doctor thinks i may be in perimenopause although my infertility nurse disagrees. My FSH levels have been in the normal range the last few months, although i had one back last November which came back at 20, so pretty high!! For the past year my periods have been quite light and only lasting 2 or 3 days and it seems this month will be the same. Hopefully i can get booked in today for an HSG soon to check my tubes are not blocked and then hoping to start Clomid in November at my next clinic appointment. Although the nurse said i can only be given Clomid as long as my FSH is under 15 so i'm hoping and praying that this month it is! What i just don't understand is how my period started today exactly 28 days since last cycle yet my body still isn't working right, how can i be that regular yet still not able to fall pregnant. Has anyone else experienced this ? Recent tests have shown that i don't ovulate, i'm hoping Clomid will kick-start this. Iv'e been myself online and bought some progesterone cream to try and get my body back on track, i'll try anything! Getting really pissed off now with all this 'trying'!! Fed up with well-meaning ladies in their 50s and 60s, my mother included telling me that i must be 'on the change'!! What the fuck, i'm only 38!!!!! Is it really all doom and gloom for us gals pushing 40 in our endless quest to hold are own baby in our arms!!

I think the answer is in your post - even with a 28 day cycle, if you are not ovulating it is impossible for you to get pregnant.

I've had a pretty regular cycle for years and ovulate every month and still can't get pregnant!

The good news is that ovulation problems are usually the easiest to fix. Clomid might solve your problem.
