low oestrogen levels - what does it mean?

I have low oestrogen levels apparently (84??). I do not menstruate and am on a waiting list for IUI. I already have a DS whom I conceived through IUI. My Consultant wants me to go on the pill to help raise my oestrogen levels before treatment (9month wait.) What harm is a low oestrogen level doing me? I know oestrogen protects the bones so my bones may be affected. What else? I am scared by this finding.
