Anyone heard of it? It's apparently what I have but could really do with any advice that knows anything about it! There's not much on the net!

Hi I also have this but I'm afraid I haven't been able to find out about it either. The fertility nurse said that its very similar to pco but didn't say much else so would be interested if anyone else knows more.

I have this!

I came off the pill and didn't get a period for 6m, so I saw a 'specialist' who did an internal and told me I had multi cystic ovaries. I was told by this consultant that this meant I'd be unable to conceive naturally and put on metformin, which did nothing but make me feel sick. So I came off it and didn't go back. My cycles then returned of their own accord (I did reduce my exercise and change my diet since I think I was probably too slim to ovulate regularly at that point).

I conceived DD first go (literally, a one shot wonder) and DS first month (so maybe three or four well timed shags), so I can only conclude the consultant was talking rubbish Smile

From the research I've done, multi cystic ovaries are not a problem unless you have accompanying hormonal issues. Provided you ovulate, it makes naff all difference: a lot of women will have them and just never know.

And it is NOT the same as pcos. Multi/poly cystic ovaries are an indicator that you may have pcos but pcos is not diagnosed without hormonal problems: all women with pcos have multiple cysts, but not all women with multiple cysts have pcos.

And just to state the obvious, women develop multiple cysts every month prior to ovulation. At ovulation one of these ruptures, releasing the egg and the rest shrink back. Just in case what you were seeing was a normal pre-ovulation state of affairs!!

Hmm, I had a scan very early in pregnancy with DS (as was in hospital and they thought it was twins) and the sonographer asked if I had any PCOS-like symptoms as one ovary was multicystic. I thought it was a bit weird as if anything I seem to be pretty much the opposite of PCOS - have absolutely none of the symptoms and never have and have conceived immediately (same month) all three times that we tried. So I guess this is what she meant?

My hormones do seem to be a bit abnormal though as had v. v. severe hyperemesis (in hospital a lot) and also v. severe SPD (in a wheelchair) and was told that both are related to higher than normal hormonal levels and/or increased sensitivity.

Well my Dh and I have been ttc for 2 1/2 years with no joy! This literally is the only thing they can find wrong with me! I have no pics symptoms. I'm now on daily menopur injections to try to mature my eggs.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties Kitty but I doubt having multi cysts has anything to do with it unless, as said, you have hormonal problems also.

How do they know your eggs aren't mature enough? Cd this be hormonal-that they're being released before they're ready?

Interestingly, my hormones go screwy in pregnancy also: my Downs risk came back v high because of high levels of the hormones they check for (but everything else was totally normal and both children are healthy).

The clinic thinks it could be the problem and seeing as though I don't have any diagnosis it's the best I've hot to go on. Just praying the menopur will work

flowers I had a much higher than expected Down's risk as well because of high hormone levels. (All the other indicators were normal or lower than normal so I wasn't that worried as I knew my hormones were funny anyway.) There's obviously a lot they don't yet understand!

kalidasa that's fascinating! It would make sense if it were all interlinked...

Hi everyone,
I have also been told I have multicystic ovaries by a specialist after ttc with no success for 12 months, I have started taking clomid 50mg, I've had two cycles so far with no luck. At first I was told my oestrogen levels were very low, now apparently my progesterone levels are very high so I've been told not to take my third cycle of clomid, I have an appointment with the specialist in a couple of weeks so will have to see what happens. Anyone else have a similar story?? x
