I want to be an egg donor

I'm considering being an egg donor, under the egg sharing scheme, where the egg recipient would receive half the eggs, and I would freeze the other half for myself (in case I wanted to become a mother down the line). I'm 31, healthy and a great candidate to be a donor, but I don't like the idea of anonymously donating, I just feel uncomfortable with the unknown. Whilst I don't want any input into the life of whatever offspring happened as a result, I would want to know it's in a good family, and would like to have met that family.

Obviously, there's a chance of donating and it doesn't work. And it's also expensive for the egg recipient (as IVF treatment costs) but if there's someone already considering being an egg recipient on the egg sharing scheme, let me know, and we can chat further.

My main motivation is to be able to help others, I feel at my happiest when I can help others. But it's a big ordeal to go through, and I also like the idea of being able to freeze half, because I don't want to be a mother now, but may do at some point down the line.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Danielle

Hi Danielle,

Could you tell me more details about the scheme you're using?

Does it cost anything? What happens when/if you decide to use 'your' half of the eggs?

Thanks!

Danielle what you are offering is a truly amazing gift that could change someone's life.

I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant having used donor eggs as I could not use my own. And I will be eternally grateful to my angel donor.

I found her through the fertility friends site where she responded to a post of mine. She was happy to go to the clinic I'd already chosen and we are still in touch through the website. It's fairly anonymous and we haven't met but I guess you could agree to share more info with your recipient.

My amazing doctor is dr Venkat at Harley street fertility hsfc.org.uk/fertility/?gclid=CN2ClJmc_rQCFQ7LtAodrGMA9g

Even if you go with them rather than finding your own recipient, they will match you with someone who will be so thankful. And you could discuss anonymity levels with them too.

Good luck whatever you decide to do Smile

Hi Danielle, thanks for the link.

Did you go through with it in the end? I am thinking of doing something similar but I guess there's a lot a corporate website doesn't tell you, what have been your experiences?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
