Hi,

We've been ttc for a couple of years (on and off - had a break last year as I got promoted and some months our shifts clash and we don't see each other at the right time...). Anyway we have decided to have one more go and then go and see the doctor next month. I am 35., dh is 37.

So what should we expect? Do we need to go together the first time? What questions will the doctor ask? I think dh is a bit nervous about it.

It's reassuring to find these boards, all my friend and family are popping out babies left right and centre, so hi :-)

Hi Marrick - I came on here about 3 years ago and asked exactly the same questions and some kind people briefed me. My appointment was for a consultant. For that you definitely need your OH with you. If it's your GP you are ok on your own as most of the preliminary tests will involve you only. I think it may help if you take a record of your cycle. It informs the GP and also convinces them that you are serious/not confused on dates/how long trying etc. Also tell the GP it has been 2 years as this can make a difference in terms of being referred. Good luck!

My GP wanted to see us together, might be worth checking when you make the appointment. She just asked how long we'd been trying and if we were sure we were doing the sex around the right time of the month Hmm. She then referred DH for semen analysis (which had to be repeated after 3 months) and me for cycle day 1-3 and 21 bloods. If it helps my DH was very wary of the semen analysis initially but is now quite laid-back about the whole thing.

Thanks for the replies, it's good to know what to expect. I'm looking forward to going in a funny kind of way as hopefully it will mean that we're one step closer!
