Laparoscopic treatment of endo - how long did it take you to recover?

I originally posted in general health about this as I have a dd and don't have any known problems with fertility, but I thought I'd post on here as previous posts I have seen about endo have been located here - hope you ladies don't mind. The original thread is here , but basically I would like to know how long it took you to recover and get back to work?

I had mine this morning and I've got an essay deadline and an exam coming up at uni. I've been signed off by the consultant for 2 weeks but I'm feeling guilty about taking so much time off. Thanks

I have no idea but go easy on yourself, don't push it and I hope you feel better soon :)

I took a week off work after my lap and treatment for endo. I was in quite a bit of pain from the trapped gas rather than anything else, and the general really wiped me out. I took it really steady in that week, I went to stay with my mum and dad, and mum looked after me during the day while my husband was at work.

Apparently peppermint tea is good for the trapped wind.

Wishing you a speedy recovery

I had a week in the end. I felt dreadful for the first three days and started to panic that I was going to be bad for ages but then I seemed to get better in leaps and bounds each day. I was still a little bit tender around my tummy when I went back but to be honest I was willing to put up with it because I was so bloody bored at home!

In hindsight I probably should have taken another few days because I was rather uncomfortable but it didn't stop me dancing til midnight 7 days after the op at a friends wedding.

You just really have to see how you feel, I don't think anyone else can give you an idea as some people feel fine the next day, others take a few weeks. Just go easy!

Thanks everyone. I have to say I was originally planning to go back tomorrow but i am so glad now that I was signed off by my consultant for 2 weeks! I woke up this morning in so much pain around the top belly button wound I took of the dressing to have a look and see if it was infected. It looks ok but it is so sore, bruised and rock hard and swollen. I couldn't take my painkillers until after I had dropped dd to the childminder's and really probably shouldn't have driven! I have spent the rest of the day either in pain or totally off my face on painkillers! Not really capable of much else. They really don't warn you what the recovery will be like! X

I've taken between 2 and 6 weeks off!

The first time, a lap and dye, I had 10 working days off work, including the day of the lap.

The second time, I was off for four or five weeks following removal of a 16cm cyst on one of my ovaries and was kept in hospital for 4 days.

The third time, I was off for four weeks following excision of endometriosis everywhere else.

Fourth visit - two years later than the last one - I had 6 weeks off following just a lap and dye. I had a terrible time with my shoulder which I thought was trapped gas but GP said it's possible they might have pulled my arm a little bit when moving me around.

So all in all. I've learned that I recover really rather slowly compared to other women but I'm fortunate that I have a good employer and family to look after me. Perhaps if I didn't I would find myself recovering quicker!?
