I have recently booked a family holiday to Tunisia but with all the recent acts of terrorism am now terrified to go. Am i over-reacting? I know Tunisia has not appeared in the news but then again neither had Turkey...until a bomb went off! I am so frightened of putting my family at risk and feel quite sick at the thought of entering into a holiday that could potentially be unsafe. I think i will be charged for cancelling, i have not told my dh this but feel the risk is too great. Am i being ridiculous?

The whole thing about the terrorist campaign is that they do not want you to be able to pre empt their actions. You could pre-empt them bombing tunisia and not go, and then your local town get bombed. Does that make sense? I would try and go and enjoy yourself. Sorry I can't be more positive about it!

That is what worries me...the not knowing and i just feel that by going somewhere like 'Cornwall' or something istead would lower the risks. I know i'm probably being really ott but i'm so worried about bombs on planes, tourist buses etc

marshmellow - you are more likely to die of something related to your every day life (road traffic accident, pollution, smoking, alcohol, diet) than a terrorist attack.

That being said I dont practice what I preach because I wont even fly! (not to do with terrorism more than I am paranoid!!)

I think that what I am trying to say is there is always a risk of terrorism - and I dont think that is likely to change for a long long time. so if you let it control you, you will never go on holiday again. statistically it probably isnt even a risk (if you see what I mean)

sorry that last bit was supposed to say 'statistically it probably isnt a high risk'

The odds are in your favour, Mm - and you can't spend the rest of your life indoors just in case - you have to assume that you will be OK, or you will just be miserable. My DD is in Cyprus atm and my DS is spending a week in London in August and I keep telling myself that too

I feel that everyone that i tell that i'm going to Tunisia always answers 'oh' and then hesitates and says 'sorry...i was just thinking of all the bombings etc'. This doesn't really fill me with confidence. I'm now beginning to feel bad that i'm risking everyones life for the sake of a bit of a break and a holiday in the sun. I'm getting myself so worked up thinking things like the plane crashing or the transfer bus to the hotel blowing up. If i cancel i lose nearly all the money!!! URGH why did i ever book it?! Has anyone been recently to let me know what it's like there?

my children were in Tunisia recently. Theyre still alive as far as I know . I dont think its any more dangerous than anywhere else, I wouldnt be worrying about going there myself. Hope you enjoy your holiday!

If you are particularly worried, maybe stay away from tourist attractions and stick to bucket and spade type activities?
