If so you can sign the on-line petition to get a fairer electoral system.... a 67 seat majority with only 36% of the vote .... is it just me or does anyone else think this sounds "not right"
If so you can always sign online

well, I am not sure were the 22% comes from if they got 36% of the vote...but if it is what I think, then why should we worry about the non voting part of the population if they don't care enough to vote?

however, I do think there is a case to answer for here as it was this system that allowed 18 years of Tory rule ...

Yes the 22% comes from the overall population.
I agree with you about the non voters but I am annoyed that a 36% vote gives anyone so much majority !

As a Scot, I have to hold my hand up and admit that if we had not done the same old, same old, Mr Blair would not be in power. I was one of the many north of the border who didn't vote for the Scottish Parliament, and I fully admit that the whole issue of the countries with the devolved Parliaments having such a say over Westminster stinks, quite frankly. PR is the only way forward, really, isn't it?

but is PR the way forward... does it really work.. do we want to be like the Italians with a series of hung governments that are so bound by political infighting that they have had more governments in the last 40 years than any other democratic country... just being devils advocate here as I hate current system and was obsessed with it during the Tory years of gaining advantage from it.. feel marginally less passionate now but still horrified when I see that there was only 3% difference between labour and tory and yet we got 67 more seats... does seem very wrong...

Have to say, I like the PR method. I'm Irish and that's the way we always vote.

Good opportunities for tactical voting and colouring your vote. And because you have multiple TDs representing the same area you have a better chance of getting a sympathetic ear.

Agree, nerdgirl. Whatever your views are on one particular party, it is obviously not right that the number of Tory seats do not reflect their share of the votes. PR does work in other countries - and is a far more just system than we have in the UK.

It also makes voting more fun. You can but the guy you really hate last on your list and smile about it!

You could do it the French way which is a 2 round system. You vote for whoever you fancy and the parties with the most votes go through a 2nd round.
It's just that you vote twice in 2 or 3 weeks but the French do it !
