How awful. I used to think trains were safe and have travelled on that particular line many, many times.

This is so horrible for the poor people on that train, who thought they were in safe hands. I commute on this line. I felt sick getting the train after the Southall crash. I'll feel equally horrible next week.

horrible, horrible..
Yet incredible how intolerant we are of the v v rare occurence of fatal train crashes compared to the 9 or 10 people killed every day on the roads! This train crash was tragic - 6 people dead but 9 died in road accidents too yesterday! Where are the press stories, where are the questions from the public about ROAD safety??
Instead we get complaints about speed cameras, not logical IMO! I also don't understand why people are scared of travelling by train - much, much safer than by road. BTW, this train crash was possibly caused by a suicidal driver reversing on to the tracks - ie not necessarily to do with rail safety at all.

Absolutly shocking.

We live near hatfield.potters bar stations. both times these crashes happened we had friends who were tavelling in and out of london on the same line. Our lodger thought we were mad when we phoned to make sure he was ok when potters bar crash happened. he had overslept at a friends house and wasnt gonna get the train till later in the end.

Very sad, if it is true that the driver was committing suicide then it is even more tragic. If you are going to do it why oh why take other innocent people with you.

meant to say they think it was a car-driver who may have caused it by reversing onto track (not the train driver who was also 1 of those killed) what a horrible & selfish way to commit suicide..

I think we are more scared of travelling by train because we have an (irrational) belief that we have more control over whether we will have a car accident. We don't, on the whole, because, presumably, 50% of accidents will be caused by the other driver.
