I just heard about this on the radio and thought I must have heard wrong - I didn't think Saudi Arabia would have Ikea stores....

That aside, what a dreadful story! I'm amazed they weren't more prepared for it (ie more security to stop people surging forward).

Yes Edam, I recall that during the Haj a few years back, on the road to Mecca, there was once over 1,000 suffocated or trampled during the trek. Does anyone recall this story? Everyone was trapped in an air-conditioned tunnel or something like that. This raises interesting questions about religion and capitalism, the similarities between Mecca and Ikea, and/or the possibility that a promotion of $150 vouchers could be likened to the holy Haj trip. . .
