Ian Poulter twitter rant - hilarious!

There's not a lot in the news that makes me laugh but the Twitter rant had me laughing out loud. He eventually seemed to realise he was being a prat but my SIL and I have mused, if you were Mrs P and the thought of being on your own in business class with your kids was so awful (particularly while your nanny was idling away the hours in economy), wouldn't you just ask 5 people in economy sitting in a row if they wanted to swap with you?? Mr P could then have stayed off social media and dealt with the airline quietly at another time? If you haven't seen the tweet, it's a great tonic and reflects how out of touch someone can become from part of their fan base. Would be great to hear Mrs P's side of the story.

Or, the wife could have travelled in economy and left the nanny with the 4 kids in business class...

Ian Poulter came over as a right twit Grin

I found it ridiculous. He couldn't see how much of a twat he was being.

His poor wife having to cope with her own children Hmm

He didn't do himself any favours, did he?! Bet the Nanny was delighted though Grin

Couple of options open to them:-

  1. The wife moved to economy and left the Nanny in business to look after the 4 kids
  2. Mrs P looked after her 4 DC by herself in business
  3. The Nanny and Mrs P alternate between economy and business and share the childcare
  4. Ask if 5 people in economy would like to swap seats with you in business (and hope you don't get trampled in the rush)

Not sure why one seat was downgraded though - does anyone know?

He booked and paid for these six specific tickets. For whatever reason.

One of those seats was then made unavailable after they had turned up. Where is that right and fair?

It's not right or fair - but what you don't do is bleat about it over Twitter when 99% of your followers have absolutely no hope of ever having enough money to pay for 6 business class seats and a Nanny. If he had a gripe with BA then he should have sorted it out with them, in private.

It's not right or fair SecretNutellaFix, the point is that trying to embarrass British Airways using Twitter isn't right or fair either. I loved the part where he announced he would be flying Virgin in future - I bet they are looking forward to having him on board, as if this never happens there. With so much war and misery in the world at the moment, what was he thinking? And then he went on to explain that he had paid for business (described by him as "steak") and ended up with economy (described by him as "tomato"). I am still laughing...but he I think someone in his PR team must have pointed out what a moron he was being as he has since cooled down somewhat.

Can we have our own favourite First World Problems here on mumsnet? I'll have a think and add my own shortly. Could it be the Bugaboo tyres puncturing in M&S and my wailing that I couldn't get home and that it was a DISASTER?!?! Blush

I have no idea who this person is!

Really? Twitter is for exactly this - tweeting bad service. It's practically its raison d'etre. That and promoting your latest thing.

Me neither ohmy.

Just Googled him Armani - Golfer, not surprised I've never heard of him!

I'd never heard of him until I opened the paper yesterday but then, sitting in second class on the train, with our 4 kids and 2 grannies but no nanny, it struck me how ridiculous he was and how out of touch with the world.

I thought Twitter was for being amusing on & he's amused me greatly.

What was the twitter rant about? I'm guessing he paid for business class seats but they wouldn't let his kids sit there

No, he paid for 6 seats so that his 4 DCs, his wife and the Nanny could all sit in business class. For some reason BA downgraded one of the seats (not quite sure why) so he took to Twitter to slag off BA and bemoan the fact that his wife had to look after the 4 children on her own in business class while the Nanny skipped merrily was shunted off to economy (which is like tomato compared to the steak of business apparently).

Ahh I bet the nanny was delighted
