Saw this on the news last night and just haven't been able to get it out of my head. Those poor girls. How can these men have such hatred towards two young girls? Two of those involved were policemen. There seems to be so much news at the moment of such violence amd hatred towards women and girls. Or has it always been there and we are just more aware of it? Feels so powerless and wish there were more we could do to try and change things for women in countries where they seems to have so little rights

It's a horrible, horrible story but I think it's a bigger problem than hatred of women that shows up the Indian and Indian subcontinental society in a very bad light. The horrendous caste system seems to have been a big factor here & the police appear to have colluded with the criminals. It's only a few days since a pregnant woman was stoned to death outside a court in Lahore and the Pakistan government are next to useless . There's a new Indian government which probably won't be any better. There may not be much we can usefully do beyond the usual 'international pressure' but if/when similar mediaeval attitudes start spilling over into British society - which they do - we have to show zero tolerance.

Absolutely sickening to read about this and see the picture of those poor girls hanging. The world needs to know about these evil wicked practices and I hope the media continue to report it.

And to think that these men think they can gang rape girls and then hang them - and get way with it, is beyond comprehension. Pure revulsion.

What have we humans done to this planet we have been given, to those other humans we share the planet with?
The girls or their families will never know, but my deepest sympathy to them.
Is it true that India has not got a tradition of philantrophy?
There seems to be such extremes of wealth and poverty.
The awful negativity towards females.
The caste system.
I despair.
