Tory MP accused of 'benefits fraud' says The Times

Peter Bone, MP for Wellingborough in Northamptonshire has been accused of concealing his mother-in-law's assets so the council had to fund her care home. Story's in The Times but this is the Beeb version as Times has a paywall.

Apparently a file is going to the CPS.

I have no idea whether any crime has been committed and if so who did it, BUT that's never stopped the Tories making wild accusations and (wrongly) smearing all benefits claimants. Perhaps this will be a case of what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. In a better world, of course, it would make his colleagues be rather more circumspect about accusing ordinary members of the public...

If Conservative MP Bone is guilty, he deserves to be put away in prison; you cannot jail Labour MP’s etc and not jail a Conservative MP, although if anyone has heard his questions to Cameron, one wonders how Mrs Bone would then get her opinions across.

As for “the Tories making wild accusations and (wrongly) smearing all benefits claimants”, that was never a truthful statement, and neither is the opposite view that all claimants are genuine.

Most amusing that the Mail, the scourge of all benefit cheats, was most reluctant to name and shame this one! Story not mentioned until hours/days after all the other news outlets and then only to publish his claims of innocence!

Hee hee.
