Have been asked to join another primary as a community governor and wondered if its common to have children at one school and be the governor at another.

Do you find it easy, juggling the two?

Yes- I have been for a few years and it really isn't a problem.

I like it better than being a governor at the school my DC attend as I feel much freer to say exactly what I think without having to be always aware that my children are going to be back at school the next morning.

It's also interesting to see how similar problems are dealt with differently by the two schools . Solutions that each school have found to problems and pitfalls they have encountered can be fed in either through the governing body I'm on or via the suggestion box at DC's school.

Same here. I was appointed governor at a nearby school that neither of my children were at, though one of them now is. It gave me a more dispassionate eye and meant the staff could speak more freely without worrying that I would have a conflict because I knew some of the people they were talking about.

Me too, I find it very rewarding. I was a governor at the school my children attended, but that governing body was full of people who weren't prepared to put the time in that was needed, and ended up being replaced by an Interim Executive Board. Which was a great relief to me, I was fed up of banging my head against brick walls. I am planning to go back when the new governing body is set up. The governors where I am now are much more effective, we all have our jobs to do and it works really well.

Excellent. They were the kind of positive stories I was hoping for.
