Jack Monroe addressed the TUC conference and published the speech she gave on her blog 'A Girl Called Jack'. She will be coming onto MN soon for a webchat.

I wanted to post a link to it here because it is an impassioned, informed counterbalance to the JO 'Feckless Poor' diatribe that has so dominated the Press recently and feeds into this Acting Government's squeezing of the poor .

Many of my patients/clients read her and really rate her as an articulate and enterprising spokesperson for their lived experiences.

Please read her blog and register for updates.

How have you coped w/ rising food costs? What food and cooking tips can you pass on? Have you seen any bargains/offers in store that you could alert us to?

It would be useful to collate these on this thread as a resource to all those trying to reduce their food and household bills whilst trying to eat well and eat healthily (and have a few treats).....Smile

I only recently discovered her blog and it has made me a lot more aware of how much money I waste on food. Before that, I knew I had to cut back somewhere but never really thought I spent too much on food! We are eating much healthier now too.

She posted a great no frills Tomato sauce for pasta/ whatever today. No added 'store cupboard essentials' like three types of wine vinegar! Just tomatoes, salt and pepper and if you have it, a tiny pinch of sugar or other condiments like herbs.

I think she is great and i love her blog. I'm going to try her kidney bean burgers.

I'd like to see her in a live cook-off with Jamie pain-in-the-ass Oliver. One of the papers tried her frugal recipies and Oliver's and she won.

I love her rational activism.

It was a great speech, I've read it.

I've ordered her book which I hope will arrive sometime soon!
