You beat me to it NotQuitePerfect.

Astonishing arrogance with a hint of corruption and cover up. They are only thinking about themselves and not the hundreds of victims of abuse. Angry

I'm going to be more charitable with W Yorks police than others. They're pretty contrite and have been unusually candid that they should have worked harder to connect various facts. We're a lot less deferential and credulous these days as a society than we were in the past. I'm thinking of the case of Harold Shipman, for example, killing patient after patient but no-one suspecting a thing because everyone used to look up to doctors as a matter of course. Ditto priests. They didn't have to pay anyone to keep quiet or go to particularly great lengths covering stuff up. No-one wanted to believe anything bad about a priest. Similarly Saville created this 'saintly' image that was almost impossible for his victims to challenge. They'd have been dissuaded from saying anything even before it got as far as talking to the police.

The result of this investigation shows it fell short of a full and proper investigation. I simply cannot believe that Saville, a prolific pedophille who operated with impunity did not enjoy the protection of his friends in the police force. If the investigation did not find the information, some may have been intentionally destroyed. However, I totally fail to see how every scrap of evidence didn't exist considering the tsunami of abuse.

JS knew exactly who to entertain and keep in his back pocket just incase a silly young girl said the wrong thing. He really did have control of the situation

"A lawyer representing 40 of Savile's victims, Alan Collins, said the report 'doesn't add up'." from this BBC story Quite. How come when a police force down South wanted to question Saville about abuse, a West Yorks copper got in touch and told them when and where Saville was prepared to be interviewed? That is pretty clear evidence that West Yorks police were protecting Saville. That they were telling other forces to lay off. Telling other forces he was beyond the reach of the law. FFS.
