They never ban the little tykes that actually fling the things do they?... Hmm Hope they apply equal opportunity sanctions to other triangular foods. Dairylea, Samosas, green Quality Street, Toblerone.....

Seriously? But squares would have four sharp corners instead of three Hmm how about disciplining the kid who threw it???

Kids can throw anything shall we ban lunch completely???

I saw this on the bbc news, honestly I checked the date wasn't 1st April!
Ridiculous, whatever next.

They could cut the square ones in half and make two triangle weapons!

Crescent shapes would be even worse
The flinger could hit their target and still get their flapjack piece back to eat boomerang style

(Ok I know it won't come back if it hits something)

This calls for testing. Wink

But why are the flapjacks so hard. Do they not crumble at all on impact? Is it a problem with the cooking method?

Seriously these children are year 7s. That means that they are 11-12 years old I think. If they've not learnt to throw food at each other by this point then I have serious questions about their parenting, education and general manners. I asked DD and she clarified that the one person shes ever known to throw food at her school was made to stand in silence for the rest of lunch and didnt do it again (she's 7) The thrower should have got a detention and extra geometry questions based around triangles

The school said that 'no one got in trouble'. They're doing it wrong!

It must be a joke. Is it April 1st already? Hmm

Nope, DeepPurple. Unless they got the date wrong.

Maybe they wrote the article and someone submitted it a few days early? [clutching at straws in response to such a ridiculous article]

this has got to be a wind up.

No, sadly not a wind up. I got a little excited about this yesterday and started a second thread in Chat (Yes, I know I need to get out more)

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1716719-Have-you-heard-the-news-story-about-the-dangerous-flapjacks

The Health and Safety executive have commented (not on the thread)

//www.hse.gov.uk/press/record/2013/sun250313.htm

A spokesman for HSE said: "We often come across half-baked decisions taken in the name of health and safety, but this one takes the biscuit. The real issue isn't what shape the flapjacks are, but the fact that pupils are throwing them at each other - and that's a matter of discipline, and has got nothing to do with health and safety as we know it. We're happy to make clear that flapjacks of all shapes and sizes continue to have our full backing.
