Piers Morgan is annoying.... it's hardly news really

Article

Alarmingly the gun-totin', huntin' & shootin' folks of the US are signing petitions in droves to have the always understated Morgan deported for daring to suggest it's a tad dangerous to have so many guns in circulation. Tsk...

65,000 is but a drop in our bucket really...millions live in New York City alone. :)

I'm a gun owner in the U.S., and FWIW I think he's right. Something certainly has to change.

Couldn't we start our own petition, saying if he gets deported we don't want him back?

He may be right but he's hardly Paxman. His whole argument appears to have involved insults and shouting. Might have been better to use reasoned debate and facts, Piers...

So if Americans don't want him and we don't want him back, can we reach a compromise and drop him in the middle of the Atlantic? Xmas Grin

You're definitely wrong. Any story in which I am cheering on Piers is pretty damn surprising, and hence newsworthy. I love the fact that they're urging his deportation for exercising his constitutional right to free speech

How's this for a tv debate on the whole gun issue? Man who loves guns gets to go head to head with Piers who can just shout back.
I know that Piers is going to come out worst but at least everyone will be happy with the result.

I'm pleased he's kicking up a stink about gun ownership - about time someone had the bollocks to
I used to moan about him but now I'm singing his praises - makes me feel quite proud tbh

I applaud him and am not his biggest fan usually

He is right in his case - his style of interviewing is usually so dire on his CNN chat show (talking over people, not letting them finish etc) but this time, Pratt deserved it

LOL @ Smeggnog.

Nice that he's quoted first amendment back so readily. He's only saying what a lot of Americans themselves think. It's just that Americans aren't used to diffident British speaking their minds.

The US Bill of Rights doesn't extend to foreigners, though, so he's on thinner ground than would be ideal.

Shit, there can't really be something I agree with Piers Morgan on can there? The world's gone all strange

I agree with his stance but the interview he conducted with Pratt was terrible and very unprofessional.

There is no point in inviting a guest on your show and then talking over them and calling them names when they disagree with you.

He's a smug arrogant tool. He obviously wanted to pick a fight with someone pro-gun.

But I agree with him, which makes me loathe him even more.

There is just such a petition:

It's funny for the first time we think he's talking some sense and its at this point that a load of Americans have decided he's a tosser. Says something about the NRA doesn't it

I applaud him as well. The US need challenging. And thought he was right to call him stupid - when the other guy was blaming people like Piers for being responsible for teachers not having guns to protect themselves. It was a stupid thing to say.

The thing about "challenging" us, though, is that for better or worse (usually worse) we really don't care. Most of the world thinks our gun laws are insane (and they ARE) but most Americans give no fucks about what the rest of the world thinks of us.

On the show "How I Met Your Mother", one of the characters was a Canadian studying to take the American citizenship test. She got into an argument about something with someone else and he told her "Not only are you wrong, but you are belligerently sticking to your guns and insulting me in the process. Robin Scherbatzky, you are an American!" That's...pretty much it.

:o I can attest to what CY says. The US really does give not fuck one about what the rest of the world thinks.
They're big enough that they don't need to care.
It's a shit fact of life for the rest of the world.

In life we challenge and get challenged - and it's no bad thing. Sometimes we need a good challenge. This pro guns attitude needs challenging. To many US citizens and to the rest of the world it looks naive and frankly stupid, whether or not the pro guns care what anyone else thinks.

It's news that he's said something most of us could agree with! 'Piers Morgan gives impression of being decent human being' is worthy of headline status!

How he went about it, I've no idea and yes, I'm sure it's pointless. Sometimes you have to say what you think, regardless of pointlessness though. Let's hope he's not deported, or he'll come back the most swollen-headed martyr imaginable.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Confused as to why 65,000 Americans give a fuck as to what a total non entity thinks about gun control anyway.

Umm he isn't the only one by a long shot. Maybe the only English person you know of? And the trouble with him is that anything he says just comes off as desperately attention seeking. I'd love to get him deported and I hate the NRA.

Many guns and decent access to mental health support = Switzerland, Cyprus.
Many guns with poor access to mental health support = Yemen, USA.
