I'd be happy with
Wiggo
David Weir
Sarah Storey
Mo Farah

Mind you I do like Katherine Grainger too.

Not helpful at all.

Jessica Ennis or Mo Farrah.

It's such a difficult one and I think in any normal year anyone one of them could have one.... I hope wiggins gets it. Amazing achievement winning the tour and then gold in the Olympics a couple of weeks later.

Bradley or jess ennis

Report
Oodthunkit · 27/11/2012 19:04

Wiggins has more than just the Olympics
Mo has been doing a lot of sports charity related stuff as well as Olympics & other races.
Jess Ennis & Nicola Adams are good for female role models
Same for Ellie & Sarah plus they are good examples of people with a disability achieving

So no idea really!

Ah but the Tour should count as best team I think.

Why have only 5 women made the shortlist of 12?

Report
YouBrokeMySmoulder · 28/11/2012 14:31

5 is loads for sports personality sadly.

Report
Nancy66 · 28/11/2012 14:34

going purely on achievement i think it has to be Wiggins.

Report
picketywick · 28/11/2012 14:43

I would vote for Ellie, but expects Wiggins to win

Report
Nancy66 · 28/11/2012 14:51

it's a telephone vote on the night isn't it?

I think i'll vote for:

Wiggins
Ellie
Jess
Mo

....then i've done my bit and it's out of my hands. happy for any of them to win.

How come nobody is mentioning Andy Murray? As much as everyone seems to dislike him, his achievements this year are comparable with Bradley Wiggins - if not more so.

An Olympic gold and silver medal sandwiched in between a Wimbledon final (first British man to do this in 74 years) and a Grand Slam win (the first British man since 1936 to do so).

ivykaty44 · 28/11/2012 21:48

I thought someone else won Wimbledon? Didn't Andy Murry come in second?

yes he didn't win Wimbledon but he reached the final which no British man had done for years, then won Olympic gold and silver, and then won the US open Smile

It's got to be Wiggo surely? I don't envy anyone making the decision this year - it's very, very tough indeed, but all things considered I don't see how it can NOT be Wiggo.

msrisotto · 29/11/2012 06:25

Wiggo, successful cyclist though he is, doesn't actually have much of a personality though! Same for Murray! I want one of the girls to win but it's hard to say who.

Report
msrisotto · 29/11/2012 06:26

This award isn't based on achievement but personality!

Report
Cozy9 · 29/11/2012 06:35

No, it is based on achievement.

Well the short list may have been but seeing as the public vote the winner, it's more of a popularity contest.

Report
ceebeegeebies · 29/11/2012 06:41

It should be based on achievements but as it is a phone vote by the public it does turn into a popularity contest which is wrong.

Still stand by my previous assertion that Murray's achievements outweigh Wiggans.
