Dear god, that photo is horrific. This brave woman deserves some dignity in death, as do her sons.

Agree, absolutely horrific and incredibly sad. Perhaps all those people in this country who recreationally stick white powder up their noses should think about the consequences of their actions Sad

I read this yesterday too and ended up in tears. Someone so brave and fiesty and such a good role model to her sons ending up like this is heart breaking.

That photo of her body was not needed. She was a brilliant woman and deserved far more respect and dignity than to have that picture printed.

'I wanted to show them my wounded, mutilated, humiliated body, because I?m not ashamed of it, because it is the product of the great misfortunes that have scarred my life, that of my children and my family.'
'Despite my own safety and that of my family, what occupies my mind is my responsibility towards my people, the children, the women, the elderly and the men who break their souls every day without rest to find a piece of bread for their children.
'Freedom brings with it responsibilities and I don?t dare fall behind. My long road is not yet finished - the footprint that we leave behind in our country depends on the battle that we lose and the loyalty we put into it.'

Dr Maria Santos Gorrestieta's own words seem to indicate that publicising photographs of what was done to her, including those of her corpse is not something she would have objected to.

We must not hide behind claims of 'decorum' which ultimately mask the ugly truth of what we do when we buy the products of the drug trade here in the UK.

This story and other realisations of how the drug cartels are destroying lives and communities has recently made me realise that we can't support or turn a blind eye to drug taking. There are too many victims who don't have a choice in the countries which supply these drugs. I read the story of this woman the other day and it hit home quite hard. Also have friends who live in Mexico and they were recently held up with these same gangs holding AK47s while out driving with their family. They luckily put their foot down a didn't stop or they might have faced the same fate as this poor women. People should remember that the next time they take their recreational (harmless) drugs.

The news that comes out of Mexico these days is so bleak Sad.

Recently I read an article about a town / county where there are huge numbers of missing women, almost certainly dead. IIRC guns aren't even legal to buy in Mexico, they all drive over the border to Texas and smuggle them back in, the border guards check everyone driving to the states but don't care what goes into Mexico. I have a feeling it was shown on one of the 'Hardest Place to be a.....' series a few weeks ago.
