Why am I not surprised that "a government source" is trying to rubbish the Children's Commissioner report into child sexual abuse by saying the language is "hysterical"?

I mean, let's all minimise, right? Let's all try and pretend that the sexual grooming and exploitation of children (mostly girls) isn't a big deal and that any attempt to actually take an honest look at it and address it properly, is just a bunch of hysterical loons.

The reaction of "a government source" (which government source? Who? Which department? Does the government agree with this particular "source"?) is depressingly predictable and I hope the rest of the government slap down their source and take the report as seriously as it ought to be taken.

So insulting to the commissioner - who was excellent on radio4 today.

It's incredibly insulting isn't it. Silly hysterical woman can't do a sensible report because they're too emotionally involved... and after all, it's only children being raped, let's trash the well-researched stats as well.

It is all very predictive of "back to normal" behaviour isn't it. We've had a bit of a moral outrage about child rape, but that's enough now, let's get back to normal and enable men to rape children with very little chance of being held accountable...

So depressing.

I have yet to hear of men described as hysterical when they are upset or angry.

personally I'm surprised the "source" hasn't called it a "witch hunt" as well!

It was on the Today programme this morning adieucalione and the Torygraph reported on it earlier on but they've replaced it with this report:

I read the report today (work in a related field and have personally met the deputy children's commissioner), far from being hysterical I think its more 'tip of the iceberg'.

Powerful men are terrified that we're talking about sexual abuse and acknowledging it and they want to put it back in the box.

It's an instinct
