They are changing format on Monday (sent me an email because I am such a prolific linker, lol) but not to tabloid - presumably that would be common!

i am so shallow, I know I will defect back to the Guardian (from the Indy) purely because of its new clothes

Oh it's your fault then, donk - they've done it to woo you - hope you are ashamed of yourself?

but it sounds so cool and exotic - "Berliner format" - I just can't resist

Agree that the graun has a much better sense of humour

i watched this on the news last night. I dont read papers but does the size of the paper matter? obv the big ones are crap when you are on the train etc..impossible to hold to read without invading space in front of person beside you.. but why not tabloid size?

Guardian as a tabloid - ugh

Report
spacedonkey · 09/09/2005 15:18

I think they've gone with the berliner format because they don't like the "single story" style necessitated by having a tabloid size front page (a la Indy)

I saw a dummy copy which looked quite exciting - but reminded me of Local Government Chronicle! (LGC has just had a redesign though so is looking sharp). Only had two news stories, a column and four nibs on the page though.

Sorry, news in brief - usually a colum of very short items.

Because it looks SO (s)wanky to open your wireless laptop on the bus to read the news...

Harumph. New format to go with their new stupid articles, eh?

Harumph.

There has been a plea to the Torygraph to stay the same size, from parrot owners. Apparently it is now the only size of newspaper the right size for lining the bottom of parrot's cages with to catch their poo!

Yes, dreading the day they all go tabloid as how else will I be able to draw up my fire? (Is that the right expression?)

Are they not staying big as well?
I like the broadsheets to spread all over the floor!
Although I do buy th Indy to read on trains, buses etc as well

The interface is so clinical and cold in the Indy. And I miss Charlie Brooker.
