well in the Spanish news anyway. I was watching tv this morning and they had live coverage of a bull run. This is not something I agree with but it is part of the country I live in, so I was interested. Anyway all these crazy men are charging down a street followed by 6 or 7 huge bulls. They headed to the entrance of the bull ring and someone didnt open the doors quickly enough. Anyway the first line of runners fell and there was a dominoe effect and people were piling up on top of each other, about 10 deep, There must have been 100-150 people. The next thing that happened was the bulls tried to get through this very small gateway and clambered over the pile of people. It was horrific for people and the bulls. Eventually space was made and the bulls and people got out, 63 injured, 2 critical. I really cant understand the appeal of this spectacle.

Sounds horrendous

I find this 'bull run' right up there w/'bullfighting' for cruel and stupid.

is that the annual race thing when they all wear red and run

IMHO it is stupid and cruel

I was interested i think its important to get a handle on where you live but I didnt derive any pleasure from it but point taken. it is amazing that this still happens, a few friends have mine have been caught up in one unintenionally when going sightseeing. Luckily two were pulled into someones house, the other 2 werent quite so lucky and got bumped by the bull.

it is annual but I have only just realised that the bull runs happen in quite a few places not just Pamplona.

Afraid I feel no sympathy for the people injured, whatsoever. The poor bulls are the ones I feel sorry for - and all in the name of tradition and fun

Report
RTKangaMummy · 28/08/2005 23:11

no sympathy for the people here either

unless they happen to get caught up in it by accident

Report
paolosgirl · 28/08/2005 23:12

Yes - if caught up by accident, then it's a different story..

I must admit it is hard to feel sympathy for the people but as someone with claustrophobia I couldnt help but feel for them even though they were doing something horrendous. There is a programme over here a bit like youve been framed except it has "funny" moments from bullfights e.g people being gorged by bulls must admit I always cheer the bull.

PG & RTKM...i was going to say the same about the bull and not the people...but thought i would get lynched!

Ive just seen it on sky news. Lilsmum, I think most people including a good number in Spain would agree with you.

lucy5...i just cant believe no one has put a stop to it, it is as cruel as dancing bears and dressing monkeys up for photos

RTKangaMummy · 28/08/2005 23:18

I don't care if others have different opinion to me on this sort of thing really

Report
paolosgirl · 28/08/2005 23:19

As my opinion is always the right one, I don't worry either

Lilsmum I hate to say it but that still happens here to. I took dd to a Circus last week, I had been last year and there were no animals, only acrobats, clowns etc. This year that had chimps on roller skates and dancing dogs dressed and masked as the Spanish version of tweenies. I felt very uncomfotable and cried when i saw the chimps. I did explain to dd how wrong this was and how we should respect animals, luckily she didnt realise that they were real, god only knows what she thought. i have emailed monkeyworld to inform them of this. I know mary chipperfield lives out here and trades in Monkeys. God where have I moved to?

i cry all the time where animals are concerned.

on many occasions in greece, and spain on holidays...i feed all the stray cats and dogs, wish i could take them home, and dwell on it for long time after.

Ive taken a stray dog in, hed been left with 2 broken legs hes fine now and cant believe his luck. I also have a rescue dog which is in seventh heaven. I nearly put a kitten in my handbag while having lunch the other day but dh put his foot down saying we had enough waif and strays already but ive already got my eye on one of the kittens who live near our bins. Although stray they are well fed by a lovely lady.

Our 2 cats were dumped by the lake at bottom of our garden as tiny kittens

A fisherman came to our door to ask if they were ours. They had been eating his wife's cake cos they were so hungry.

We took them to the vets and they were healthy and so we adopted them, there are no houses round here so were deffo dumped cos they were sooooo tiny

They are now coming up 7 years

Its amazing what some people will do. our dog with the broken legs was actually thrown out by a neighbour after her husband died. The incredible thing is that this little dog had once saved the husbands life when he had a heart attack. He ran to get help and barked until somebody listened. When she sees the dog now, she say "hola Copito", as if hed never had anything to do with her.
