Was it really necessary for Tony Blair's holiday destination to be kept secret?

Due to the "heightened security threat" to him? Nice to see him standing shoulder to shoulder with us, don't you think??

Well, he IS much more likely to be a target than you or I. Fair enough I think.
I don't need to know where he went.
He does lead our country.

More serious a threat than during the IRA campaign and the Second World War?? It's only in the last few years that we've started seeing glass partitions in the Commons, gates at the end of Downing Street, exclusion zones for protests outside Parliament etc etc .

And having made the fuss about the destination being kept secret, why is it now OK to go public? Bizarre.

As suicide bombers have been able to simply walk onto a tube and blow people up, I'm quite glad that the leaders of our country are protected.

I think it was reasonable. Impossible to apply security conditions of say Downing Street to holiday destination. The only reason for not being secret was so he could attend a World War 2 commemoration event. Think this is actually an 'August' news item! (i.e. not that many other political stories around as Parliament is not in session).
