I KNOW it sounds really strange to you lot - but it is neccessity that has driven me to this.
I have a 5 year old with special needs and an 8 year old with no SEN. We are moving schools in January, but my child with SN can't move straight away as he is not toilet trained (due to his needs) and needs a changing bed in the new school. There will be an 8 week wait for this.
I want to home educate him as he is learning NOTHING at school (apart from how to use a pair of scissors!)
How would I go about this for such a short period of time? Can I deregister him, then add to another school roll so quickly? Any advice greatly appreciated!

You can deregister him from his existing school, even if you plan for him to go to another school at some stage - it doesn't matter if that's only going to be a few weekes, or you're thinking about secondary school, or whatever. The only thing you need to watch out for is to make sure the people at the new school understand that you still want the place and are not taking him out of school permanently. So long as they don't see any problem with it, then you can just send/take in the letter to deregister him.

There are no restrictions on when you can go back into the school system.

It doesn't sound strange at all Nat1H -sadly we are very used to hearing such tales from desperate mothers of children with SEN.

Are you sure you will get a place at the new school?
Is the shcool he is in now a special school?

The very best place to go for advice on situations like this is the HE Special Needs email support group

They won't mind one jot that you are only intending this for a short while and will happily lend support and give information.

no advice - but sounds like a fantastic plan.
good luck with it. I reckon you're doing the right thing (not that you need approval... just saying)
