After 18 months of thinking about HE I am happy to say that today is the very last day of state education for DS2.
The de-reg letter was hand delivered by my son to the head teacher yesterday (I wasn't able to see her and his own teacher wasn't in school yesterday.) I have had no phone call or note home from anyone from school to even ask why ( I am not surprised).
I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and now my son can really start to learn. We had his school report on Friday and there was no surprises. In one whole school year he has only gone up one sublevel and they are ok with that saying at least it is improving. I love my son very much and I have to be honest and say being at level 2 at the end of year 4 is not good.

DS has a speech delay which affects his work quite clearly, he asks them for help and they tell him do it on your own. This is from a boy that is full of confidence, very out going and likes to do things for himself anyway. He never ask for help unless he needs it.

I now wished I had done this ages ago but it has taken this long for his dad to also agree with me that being in school is not helping.

Just because state education is free it doesn't mean to say it is any good.
I am about to go and collect him in 30mins and I can't wait to see the back of this place and allowing my son to really learn, grow and love life.

Ahhh Sin, I can imagine how you are feeling, what a great post.

Good luck and I hope it is everything you imagine, for both you and your son Thanks

Well done and good luck. State education is a one size fits all and if you're a different size it simply does not cater for you. Your DS is lucky to have such a strong mother.

well done! Smile

I'm currently HEing my 5 & 7yos (my 13 yo was HE'd until secondary school & 3yo has just started a couple of days a week at preschool). My 7yo had severe language difficulties (he also has ASD) & was completely mute until he was 3/3.5yo - he's made wonderful progress at home.

Thank you for your kind words everyone xx

I have picked ds2 up from school and nothing was mentioned, maybe they thought I would want to say something to them first but for the past two years I have tried to get help for my son and nothing happened.

I was a little sad for ds though as they made him a lovely leaving card which was signed for by the class, he will miss them a lot.

He has now gone to his normal maths and literacy lesson which he now has a 1-2-1 tutor. She has really helped him in the last few months and he will continue to have these lessons until we find our feet. At least I can see the benefit first hand.

All this time I was a little nervous about doing this and now I can't see what I was worrying about. Nothing bad is going to happen being educated at home. lol
