Hi Everyone

Sorry to gate crash, does anyone know of any RE resource with a focus on introducing the basics of the major religions, suited to an 8 year old? We are abroad and DD is in school, but we are unhappy with the way religion is taught (Christianity as the sole unquestioned truth). She took the opt out of Ethics til recently, but the school no longer have a teacher, so she is having to do Catholic religion classes - which she reports are mainly just copying out, to add boredom to insult!

I'm hoping her teacher will let me send her work in - this has been allowed in the past for English, as its her mother tongue and classmates are beginners. Need to find a resource though!

Earlier this year, we learnt a lot about Saudi Arabia, and I pinned some of the resources on my Pinterest. There's some links to Islam, if that's any use for you. All the major faiths have educational pages on their websites, and the TES site has loads too.
Hope that helps a bit.

I printed out a couple of ppt presentations and storyboarding exercise on Buddhism from the TES site last night and then looked more carefully at them - they were packed with grammar and punctuation errors! MN pedants would have a field day! I appreciate that they are free to use, which is great, but it doesn't inspire much confidence in UK primary school teaching if that is the exemplary material that teachers are sharing and posting enthusiastic comments about- wow! Didn't feel I could take what I'd printed off into the meeting I had with DD's teacher today, as I am sure her (German) class teacher would have noticed the errors - and as DD has limited exposure to English in a formal / educational context I don't want to give her work full of mistakes as a model!

Good news is it is absolutely fine for me to set DD separate work in English on any ethics or world religion based theme for the 2 hours of religion a week, which she can do at the back of the class.
