What do you do about illness?

I probably just need to relax. Dd2 has been HE for nearly 3 weeks. DDs 1&3 both go to school.

Dd3 had a sickness bug on Friday night. She went to school this morning (48hr rule complied with). DD1 &I came down with it this morning. DH is home looking after dd1 and I'm in bed. Both vomiting regularly.

I feel guilty that dd2 is having to occupy herself.

Oh poor you, I hope you and DD1 feel better soon Thanks If DD3 was over it by this morning then hopefully its not a terribly long lasting bug and things should be back to normal again soon.

Don't feel bad about DD2 having to occupy herself for a while, this is a great skill to learn. Also she will be learning all sorts of real world stuff and social skills like empathy and helping others when they are ill, and why it is important to wash hands etc. to stop germs spreading.

I'd just snuggle up and watch DVds together or read a book, if I could manage it. Or you could ask DD2 to read you a story, under the guise of helping you feel better, or ask her to make you and DD1 get well soon cards maybe. Just to keep her occupied, don't feel like you should be 'making her learn' there's plenty of time for that when you are all feeling well again.

Oh, everyone takes enough days off to get better, no question!

Thank you. Dd2 has been Florence Nightingale to us and painted a picture of us so she's happy!

Sorry to hear you're all so poorly.

Flexibility is one of the wonderful things about HE - you can just pull back when necessary and focus on what matters, in this case, getting well. You don't even need to 'catch up' as you'd be expected to in school. Just take it easy, get well soon and properly. There's such a lot of pressure these days to pull ourselves together and generally we don't give ourselves enough time to recover from illness, I reckon.
