Oak floor & brown leather sofas/chair. What style of furniture?

Flooring is oak herringbone (oiled finish), upholstery is brown/tan (not orange!) leather chesterfield type. Current other furniture (TV unit, console table, side/lamp tables) is tall the ubiquitous shaker oak type (from previous scheme) but it is all too brown, even with rugs and other colours of soft furnishings to break up the brown.

If you have oak flooring & brown sofas, what style of cabinet furniture do you have?

I'm not keen on glass because of the dust and visible wires from lamps etc, so would prefer solid type furniture. Room is bright but north facing.

Pinterest is proving fairly unhelpful in this instance.

I sort of have your colour scheme!

we have an oak floor and brown cord / cream sofas. I have a large cream laura Ashley rug, a tall taupe lamp and my walls are painted in a shade called ' walnut ' which is a creamy very pale off white taupe.

I have a large coffee table, side unit and tv stand in Indian sheesham wood which I think looks really nice and I add a bit of.colour with very bright dartington flower vases and a canvas on the wall which is really.bright.

I really think that rooms should be neutral and like the sound of what you describe you have in yours. far nicer to keep everything neutral and fresh and add colour / interest with a canvas / mirror / crystal vases.

oh and no.cabinet furniture. I don't like the look of glass and loads of ornaments. I like a big side unit

Thanks JC Smile, that's useful. I'll have a look at sheesham.

We do have paintings on the walls so colour does come in from there too as well as lamps/rug/etc. I just find the brown floor, brown sofas, brown wood furniture a bit heavy and well, samey. It'd be easier if we'd gone for fabric sofas in a paler or different colour, but DH wanted leather, it was his only veto.

hmm.. cream sofas would.definitely soften the overall brown look a bit for sure...

I know what you mean though. although I love neutrals because they look.classier, sometimes it can look a bit unexciting

When I say "cabinet furniture" I just mean tables/sideboards/bookshelves etc. Cabinetry / wood storage furniture rather than fiddly china cabinets for nik-naks. I was trying to differentiate between upholstered furniture and tables etc. just caused more confusion in the process!
