How to make a rental house feel like HOME?

I'm looking for ideas and tips for making my rented 3 bed semi feel like home for myself and DH. Don't want to go into situation too much, but we've had to move really quickly and both of us are feeling unsettled. House came furnished, and although very dated in parts its in a nice area with a good garden, so I would LOVE some tips for each room (or even some activities) to get that homely feel. Particularly bedroom, garden, kitchen and living room. Thanks, looking forward to suggestions!

Ooh it's very brown isn't it. Will they not let you get rid of anything? IS the sofa theirs or yours? What about the mirror?

To counteract the brown hallway I would look to add PALE accessories. Same in the sitting room. Change those curtains for something pale and light and pretty...get a lovely rug...parquet is gorgeous but not cosy.

If the sofa is theirs and you can't change it, then do cover it up a bit with some nice blankets or throws and add massive, soft pillows...again pale colours. Hang some nice prints, buy lots of candles and have those dotted about.

Art! I have various prints of favourite pieces, they really liven up the space and give it personality. They make me happy when I look at them and I no longer feel sad that the walls aren't the colour I'd like.

For the garden could you get some large pots or bags? That way if you have to move on soon you can just take them with you. As it's summer you could maybe just get some flowers/herbs etc that you can just repot, rather than growing from seeds, it'll make an impact quicker.

And yes reeeeally lovely curtains and bedding. I've had great deals in sales in department stores, makes a big difference if you have something you really love

Do you have a strict budget?
Some big/tall indoor plants to add greenery
Throws cushions curtains and rugs
Montage of your photos in a huge frame to replace the mirror above the fireplace
A couple of garden chairs and table and have some meals out there

Will they store anything for you, or could you put unused items away in a spare room (assuming you have one - is it just you and your DH?)

Hope you manage to settle soon
