Advice on colour/finish for tv stand in this room (pic)

If you can get past the fact that I have brown leather sofas & a huge tv, then I'd like your advice please Grin

Tv is going to be wall mounted in the alcove to the right of the fireplace on a bracket which will allow it to sit flush against the wall when not in use or pulled out/swivel.

We are also having a surround sound system installed which will require an extra receiver box in addition to the blu ray player/PVR/xbox/wii U.

I want to hide all this AV stuff in a cabinet, I know I don't want any open shelves or glass - I don't want it visible at all. I'm thinking handleless/push to open doors.

My problem is knowing what colour; try to match it in with the Laura Ashley Garrat chestnut furniture I have/go for a beige neutralish colour or black? Matt, satin or high gloss?

Is there an alcove?

Can't quite understand the drawings - is that the cabinet you're intending?

I would either go for:

  1. try to match your other wooden furniture
    or

  2. white to match your woodwork, very simple, possibly a floating shelf type thing under the TV (i.e. as if it's part of the woodwork of the room, rather than a piece of furniture iyswim).

Definitely not gloss or black - too modern to fit with your room style. Beigey painted might work.

Ignore drawings, I posted the wrong pictures Blush

Noddy there's not an alcove as such, just that the hearth makes the wall either side of the fireplace seem receing in comparison.

I would probably do floating with 2 drawers painted same as walls and try and match handles to other furniture for cohesion. Wouldn't cost too much to get a carpenter for that

Noddy what's floating with 2 drawers? I'm hoping my builder will make me something discreet for our telly. Sorry to butt in.

Thank you. I don't think I could have one as it would need to be fixed on the side return. Great idea to paint it the same colour as the walls.

I was thinking of going along the same colour as the walls when I was thinking beige, handleless. I like the floating idea, just worried as to whether these plasterboard walls can take the piece of furniture with the av equipment in it.

Do carpenters do lacquer/paintwork ?
