Colour to go with gardenia woodwork.....

Hi, I'm new but read lots of your threads on here and hope you can help!!
I posted this in the DIY section then realised this is the better place to be!

Our new house has all the woodwork in Gardenia and now we need something neutral to go through some of the rooms with (main bedroom, spare room, hallway etc) until we decide on actual colours/styles etc. A lot of the rooms are fresh plaster or old very gaudy bright colours so something neutral that looks good will get us moved in and mean we don't have to rush to choose a look for each room.

If I had white woodwork I would have been boring and done gardenia or magnolia walls. However I'm at a loss as to what to put with the gardenia woodwork?

Decorator starts on Tuesday so feeling the pressure a bit.....

Thanks in advance smile

Are you planning on keeping the gardenia wood work in the medium/long term?

Yes - new windows just gone in in that colour (its an old stone house) and they have a paint guarantee for 10 years inside and out. As inside of windows had to be the same as outside (!) and we didn't want white that's why we've now got that for our woodwork. I do like it, so not a problem, just need to learn how to work with it!!

I cant think of a a neutral to work with it tbh. Would you consider a colour instead? A soft green perhaps?

my parents have gardenia - am trying to think what their wall colours are.

hall/stairs/landing has a lovely neutral wallpaper on it which matches the gardenia woodwork.

erm lounge and dining room are painted but can't think what colour. will ask my mum.

one of the bedrooms has a very very VERY pale pinky paint which goes well with the woodwork.

ah no sorry - the hall etc is where the new gardenia woodwork is and that is where they have the wallpaper. INSIDE the lounge and dining room the woodwork is white so that doesn't help you at all. she can't remember the colour of the pinky paint.
